ABC is saying Sharpton veered from prepared, approved text
when he gave his speech.

More media bullshit?

And if so, who really cares?

It was a slam dunk.

2. Well he's sitting with
Terry McCauliff right now and they are both pretty happy so if he did it doesn't seem like it was disapproved of.

6. Well good deal
take THAT ABC!

I need to email ABC now and let them know that is NOT news and certainly not good enough for the ticker on the bottom (that's where I read it).

I'm only on ABC now because my dish went out! Storms here!

11. Most great speakers ad-lib a little bit.
There have been a lot of great speeches--but his was one of the BEST!
I absolutely LOVED it! It just shows his talent--the fact that he ad-libs it and comes across so wonderfully.

21. from the sound of it most of it was off text
and that is cool. went off the approved. doesnt hurt the dem at all to have people go against rule, especially our sharpton. it was just fine, he had something to say

gonna go after the media, with all i talk to about the bigotery taking it off msnbc, and dissing sharpton immediately and telling all us we dont want to hear this. who is tweety to decide what i want to hear.

this one is the one that pissed me off most tonight.

not going to have blatant racism, and then be insisted i be a part of it

12. He did, he was interviewed when he left the stage and the
talking head asked him about his speech. The mic holder (not a journalist, just holds a mic and pretends) said "I was watching your teleprompter and the words stopped, but you continued on. Did you stray too far and go past your time? Will you have messed up the entire night because you went long and beyond your prepared and approved text?" (paraphrased) To which Sharpon replied "I told them I was going to answer *'s questions and I did. Everyone goes long and no one is going to be bothered."

He did go outside of his scripted speech and he did a wonderful job in answering *'s questions!

the RNC and the media and * can go cheney themselves!

13. They're trying to inject talk of 'scripts' for an effect
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 09:55 PM by cprise
...to make the DNC look creepy and manipulative.

They'll use any excuse to bring these talking points up.

Watch how much they talk about 'scripting' when those GOP goose-steppers have their convention! If anyone is wondering whether chimpy needs a script, they won't hear much about it from the American media.

19. The media were given the speeches before they were made
So Sharpton ad-libbed, what is this business about not "approved"?
Just more media bias

Sharpton's speech (as "approved") printed in the NYT:

Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 09:57 PM by gmoney
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Of course, no matter what, they'd have to find a way to piss on Sharpton. I heard most of the speech and it was top notch... I'm looking forward to the re-run, or maybe catching it on CSPAN streaming.

23. I believe the term is "canned" n/t
You can't win. Stay on script, you are too "canned", go off script you are "wild-eyed and crazy". But not the republicans, just the dems of course.

Screw the goddamned media.

"I suggest to you that if George W. Bush had allowed to choose the Supreme Court in 1954, Clarence Thomas wouldn't have been able to go law school"

he was great. he said everything that everyone was thinking but was too wussy to say out loud. I love al sharpton.

24. Sharpton said that he added because Bush challeged
African Americans last week. Bush said that the Democratic Party takes African Americans for granted and Sharpton wanted to refute that. That is why he veered from the script.
