Frankie Luntz' focus group on MSNBC
Group of Dem, Repug and Indy voters in Ohio. Basically, of the people who said they voted for Bush in 2000, half said they would not do so in 2004.

If this small focus group is any indication of how Ohio is leaning, BushCo. is in deep shit.

3. Then Luntz threw it back to Tweety and Co.
On the panel, and they spun it in the exact opposite direction of the people in the focus group. Unreal.

20. Wow. The whole purpose of a "focus group" is to show how the
sampled group thinks and will vote.

How can you "spin" that? Kind of defeats the purpose of the exercise, don't it?

2. I guarantee you that sometime this fall, Luntz will assemble
the same group and manipulate them into going for Bush. He's a phony and his polls and groups are worthless to everyone but the RNC.

about Edwards not catching fire in OHIO.

Give me a break. Did they not see that Bush lost half his support from 2000?

Hello???? Are the willfully stupid?

I was hoping Mayor Brown would at least make that point.

Regardless of Edwards swaying them or not, half of Bush's supporters in that group are not planning to vote for him this time around.

12. I couldn't believe their interpretation...
I was not paying too much attention to Luntz and then, when I heard the spinners, I thought I must have missed something.

I do wonder about the swing voters they have on TV. It almost seems as if they're playing a role. It's a kind of circular hell. Even if they change their minds, they're not going to admit it because then they wouldn't be swing voters and couldn't appear on TV with Frank Luntz. People also have become so good to playing to television, saying what they think people like Luntz wants to hear--

Swing voters are stars because they hem and haw and vacillate and tease and give that little half-hearted raise of their hand no matter what questions they're asked. I just don't buy it.

11. It's ridiculous...
I'm so disappointed with the major network cable news coverage.
But that's OK.

I am waiting for hate fest 2004.

The RNC 2004 convention.

I got a feeling this is going to be good.
Really good.
Something is going to happen here in my home town.
NYC.

Fallwell is giving the invocation.

That's all I needed to hear.

They better be as hard on the RNC as the DNC.

The MSNBC's and the CNN's and the FOX's.

People will notice if they are not.

SOMETHING big is going to happen in NYC.

Just watch.

frank luntz was VERY fair and i have heard much about him but he really was good. no bias whatsoever that i detected (and i sure was looking)
but yeah, the msnbc panelists didnt seem too impressed with edwards speech either. too bad. im just glad i didnt have to listen to tucker. he is sooo negative at every turn.

the focus group:
keep in mind this was cincinnati ohio:

these were the undecided voters (except there was an older gentleman who clearly was for * so im not sure how he made it in the group)

they gave low marks to edwards speech. they described him as packaged but also centrist and not much substance in his speech about how he was going to pay for everything.

but i was hugely surprised and hugely pleased that nearly everyone (except maybe one or two) put their hands up when luntz asked if they thought kerry was a "war hero"
and one man said kerry "walks the walk"
there was near unanimous agreement that kerry was the strong hero. i loved it.

the older * supported cracked me up when he said: "well you dont have to serve in the military to put your life on the line for your country. george bush put his life on the line when he ran for president" he seriously said this!

but they werent impressed with edwards but were agreed that * has disappointed them. one man said they have been "bushwhacked"

i was sorry that they didnt like edwards speech more but was heartened that they seemed to really respect kerry and clearly arent happy with *

i pray for jk tomorrow night. he is going to do great and win these guys over for good

16. Deep Shit indeed!
And it's our responsibility to make sure that those who've shifted see the shift that Bush will be (and already is) making. Dangerous times with Lutz helping Rove out. Very dangerous times.

I've seem the spin doctors saying that there's not difference between Kerry and Bush on Iraq. What they conveniently leave out is that BUSH is the one who has shifted...not Kerry.

23. Crashing down around them
I don't know if Luntz got greedy or if Rove thought he could really be so bold. Marketing firms work best from behind the scenes. And make no mistake, Luntz has provided unprecedented, valuable information for the RNC. He is VERY effective, thorough, and worth every penny they are paying the firm.

But Luntz' decision to be an analyst could very well be the beginning of his demise.

22. remember...
I've seen recruitment notices from Frank Luntz's focus group on freerepublic.com.

Why should we assume that any of these people are really swing voters? They're certainly capable of posing as anything that might skew the results.

I'd wager that some of those people called undecideds are freepers.

24. Interesting...
ever see any notices here on DU from him? Think not.

That is a big mistake he is making for Rove, actually. Unless Rove is focusing solely on the base, they can not pick up more voters. A fundamental rule in business and marketing is to know your competition. Yes, know your base so that you can cater to them and keep them loyal. But you have to also know what your competition is doing effecively. If you are restricting your research to your base, you're not going to learn about your competition and grow your base.
