Hillary and Chelsy drinking champaign during Convention
Was that shot a boo boo that will be aired and aired over and over again? It sure struck a wrong chord with me but it was afterall a party. It just reinforced the idea of the liberal elite.

3. My Problem
Was that when they realized the camera was on them, they both (especially Chelsea) acted like they had just gotten their hands caught in a cookie jar and looked exceptionally guilty.

It's like, if you're gonna do it, own it. If you're ashamed of it, don't do it in public with cameras, for Christsakes.

They were owning it then thought about the RW media and got all self conscious.

It's a shame that everyone is so afraid.

18. I didn't think Hillary looked guilty
She looked like she could just see the comments that would be coming, then she tipped her glass and had a sip.

22. She Had a Look Like, "Shouldn't Have Been Doing That"
I mean, you really just have to see it, but she kind of had a "Oh, fuck" look on her face.

But you're right, Hillary wasn't nearly as guilty-looking as Chelsea. She looked right at the camera, then moved her glass out of sight and looked extremely uncomfortable.

31. I didn't see it as a "Shouldn't Have Been Doing That" look
to me it looked more like, "here we go again," "I can just see the headlines now" look.

To me she looked more annoyed than concerned.

Oh well. I thought it was nice to see Mother and Daughter, sitting side by side, enjoying "something" to drink and talking. (they could have been drinking apple cider for all we know)

Chelsea has grown up to be a lovely, dignified young woman, and her parents should be very proud of her.

26. Instead of going OOPS, they should have WAVED "HI"!
And maybe raised their glasses in a little toast to the cameras.

Sure beats sticking out your tongue.

44. Better than what they did...
There's nothing wrong with having a drink at the convention (like they were the only ones in Boston having a drink -- I've seen the DU Happy Hour photos!), but the look on their face made both of them (especially Chelsea) look like they were doing something wrong. I think a big smile and a toast would have pissed off the Freepers -- but they're always pissed off about something so you might as well have fun with it.

46. I couldn't agree more, I wish they toasted the camera.
However, if the right tries to make this in to a huge issue, it will backfire amongst the independents. The clinton haters need no ammunition to flame their ire.

8. And there were probably lots of others doing the same thing...
If the biggest thing they have to pick at is Hillary and Chelsea Clinton sharing a moment together...

I thought they both looked happy, maybe they were enjoying the speeches and feeling confident that our nation is on the right track again.

but what can you expect, they ARE the liberal elite. ALthough I would imagine it was just a mother-daughter moment cought at the wrong time. I have a feeling shots like that will be more common at the repug convention, or else a lot of gratuitous blue-collar-working-boy shots.

41. It only did so because I know how the "Liberal Media" will play it
I am not against anyone enjoying themselves at such an event and I thought it was actually a very wonderful moment between mother and daughter. Chelsea looked beautiful and so did her mother but I winced because I know how it will be played. Hell even Jon Stewart did a thing on it and I'm sure we will hear more about it.

but just about any liquor store will have a sub $7 bottle of champagne and the cheapest i have seen is $3 on sale.

Not to mention that if you buy $7 bottles by the case you can get it that cheaply.

Trust me though, you dont want it :) cheap champagne is some nasty stuff!

They're seeing how people are reacting to it on the right-wing wacko sites, then they'll put it out for mass consumption on CON/MSGOP/FAUX if they think it accomplishes what they want.

Funny how the right wing always call us humorless gloom-and-doomers who don't know how to have any fun. So when Hillary and Chelsea enjoy a drink and a smile, it's a no-no?

Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 11:30 AM by indie_voter
Cristal 1990? Yum. Krug 1988, sublime. 1996 Dom Perignon, I hear it is fabulous! The glasses looked plastic, I hope they weren't.

Chelsea put her almost empty glass down rather quickly, I liked that Hillary took another sip for the cameras.

I hope a day comes my daughter and I will be sharing a fun/joyful moment drinking champagne.

I thought it was a charming moment which unfortunately was destroyed by the fear of image. :-P

Isn't Ken Starr about to argue in front of the Supreme Court in an effort to overthrow archane interstate wine commerce laws?

I never thought I would say this, but I hope he succeeds. :-)

It's a big arena. I think Chelsea was just putting down her glass and it looked odd because she couldn't find a good spot to put it down. Hillary took a drink because she was having a drink. Nothing more, nothing less. Total non-story.
