Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 11:43 AM by arwalden
... and clue me in on what happened to John Kerry's first marriage. Was he widowed? Amicably divorced? Dog-fight scandalous divorce?

-- Allen

No joke. I honestly don't know.

1. Amicable Divorce
He's quite gracious about it, as is she, from what I've seen. They don't like to talk about it much, though, obviously.

17. not at all likely -- the first president who admits to hating ice cream
The US would choose an atheist over an ice-cream hater! It seems like everybody running for office is asked about favorite ice cream flavors -- nobody dares respond "I don't like it".

8. My quesiton for Catholics-How can he still take communion?
Not the pro-choice BS from the right but I thought that you couldn't take communion if you had been divorced, or is it okay if the wedding is annulled?

My RW boss told me about this (I'm not Catholic and not very religous) and how he was writing a letter to the pope -LAst Easter John Paul II pretty much ended the need for this letter.

11. It was anulled. Not a divorce according to the Pope.
So communion is A-OK.

No, I don't really know the difference.

14. explenation
Divorce applies only to civil marriages. In the eyes of the church divorces dont count, thus if you get divorced you are really just walking out on your husband/wife and if you cannot get married again in the church because you are already married.

An annulment is a deterimination by the church that for some reason the marriage was flawed and shouldnt have happened in the first place so it doesnt count.

10. I'll have to feed you first. I'm from the south and we feed newcomers,
returnees, and those knocking on our door and asking questions.

So, have a cookie? sandwich? fried chicken? ....well, that and I don't know the answer :)

12. From a story at salon.com

http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/archive.html?wire=D842TT6O0.html

<<Kerry and his first wife, Julia Thorne, were separated in 1982 and divorced in 1988. Alexandra said her mom, who now lives in Montana, is "exceptionally cool, incredibly generous, present and very loving." Vanessa said Thorne is "a huge supporter of my father's and really believes he would make an excellent president.">>

Same article includes interesting tidbits, so to speak, about Alexandra's scandalous dress in Cannes.

16. He apparently underwent a painful divorce
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 03:00 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
His wife was struck with mental illness and it was not amicable at the time..but over time they worked out their differences and became friends...she supports his presidency.

Now let's talk about Gingrich showing up with a legal pad to separate his property with his wife (who he had been cheating on) while she was undergoing treatment for cancer.
