Whoa Whoa Kerry takes lead in WV 48-44
http://americanresearchgroup.com/wv/

John Kerry and George W. Bush remain tied among likely voters in West Virginia according to a survey by the American Research Group. A total of 47% of likely voters say they would vote for Kerry if the presidential election were being held today and 44% say they would vote for Bush. A total of 3% of likely voters say they would vote for Ralph Nader and 6% of likely voters are undecided. These numbers are unchanged from June.

In a race between just Bush and Kerry, Kerry leads Bush 48% to 44%, with 8% undecided.

3. My Dad says that he can't walk into any store or restaurant in....
...Huntington, WV, without somebody making a negative remark about FratBoy and a lot of other people joining in. Dad also says that he's usually the first to say something just to stir the pot! :-) Not bad for an 84-year-old!

4. Agreed, good to see them coming home!!
I always wondered why Gore blew a state that even the hapless Michael Dukakis carried handily. Then I realized that Gore essentially blew off the state, let the NRA and the Christian Coalition go to work there, and didn't even bother to pay them a visit in WV until the end of October!

Kerry seems to be doing what Gore SHOULD have done: visit the state, talk to the folks down there, and NEVER TAKE ANY STATE FOR GRANTED!~!

6. Kerry will win it eventually....I think.
Gore lost for one reason: Charlton Heston scared the hell out of the rednecks around here by telling them that Al was coming to take their guns.

Sophisticated arguments are a bit lost on a lot of my fellow Mountaineers, unfortunately.

7. Excellent news. I have been expecting something like
this for a while. Considered the pro-Bush vote in 2000 an NRA fueled anomaly for a traditionally DEM state. Bush policies on coal and steel have alienated many in WV along with national factors. One note of caution is that ARG leans about +2 for DEMS. Adjusting for this and the Undecideds breaking 2-1 for the challenger, this poll probably reads Kerry 49, Bush 48, Nader 3. Within the MofE but very good news that WV is now a "slight lean" for Kerry battleground.
The EV combine of WV and NV could win the election even in the highly unlikely event that Bush carried EVERY other major (Bush 2000) battleground (AZ, CO, MO, OH, FL, AR, NC, VA, TN).
ps I give no credence to ANY theory that such so-called "media battlegrounds" of OR, NM, MN, IA, WI, NH, ME will do anything but vote DEM in the end

11. LIKELY VOTERS, which means that actual numbers are more like 52% - 42%.
LIKELY voters always skews heavily Republican because new voters or infrequent voters are automatically eliminated.

12. I know it's anecdotal, but I really don't think the election is as close..
As this poll indicates, in WV. In my own family and circle of friends, both of which are very large, there are few who have not seen the light...and many of them voted against Gore in 2000.

Also, I have yet to find even ONE person who voted for Gore in 2000, but who now is going to vote for Bush...that breed of cat simply does not exist, in my experience.

As far as all these polls go, especially the neck and neck ones, I wonder how many of the respondents are simply afraid to say anything bad about Bush? At one point, didn't Homeland warn all 18,000 Police Dept's. to be on the lookout for people talking "bad" about the pResident? Like I always try to do.

A lot of people are afraid, and the pollsters and GOP are almost surely, intentionally playing on these fears.

I have heard several speakers address this at the convention, in a general way, advocating courage.

The GOP relies on wedge issues, hate, fear and lies to win their campaigns. I find them disgusting.
