Weird Things I Think Of While I'm Watching The Convention
* I wonder if anyone at MTV helped out in the arrangement of this. Sometimes I feel as if I'm watching the MTV Video Music Awards Nomination Convention.

* Finding a way to sneak in 'Safer at home, more respected abroad' into every other sentence is grating on me. I knew Al Sharpton had deviated from his script because I never saw those words pass his lips. No wonder i couldn't take my eyes off of him.

* Elizabeth Edwards has a big butt. Some of you might consider this a criticism or slight against her. I don't. I like big butts and I cannot lie. I'm glad to see myself and the future Vice President have something in common other than good looks. ;)

* I think Barak Obama could run for anything he wants to and win it immediately. Hell, Kerry could have chosen him as his running mate and after hearing him give one speech, nobody would care how inexperienced he is. He blows Edwards away, for my money.

* Hillary Clinton needs a volume dial when she speaks. She constantly shouts as if she's trying to gain control of a rowdy room. It took me a while to realize why I sometimes find her annoying. That's the reason. Its because of this that I feel she will never run, nor become, anything other than a senator. However, if I can pull out a bit of prognostication, it wouldn't surprise me if Kerry wins in November, that if he gets any Supreme Court vacancies opening up - he will nominate Hillary for the position. Where, I believe, she is much better suited than the Senate.

* Jennifer Granholm isn't as cute as she thinks she is, but she's still pretty likable. I liked her speech in points and think she'd make an excellent Senate leader one day.

* Teresa is going to polarize people. Some will like her, some will not, but she won't be as polarizing as Hillary. For instance, I like her a lot, but my girlfriend finds her boring.

* Edwards speech wasn't a homerun for me, but a solid line-drive double. Maybe I'm too jaded from Barak Obama and Bill Clinton and Al Gore. I was expecting a little more from Edwards last night, but I suppose it was good for the people who've never heard of him before. He didn't prevent Kerry from giving a more memorable speech than him - which I suppose is a good thing.

* CSPAN is cool. MSNBC is surprisingly good (esp Chris Matthews). CNN is horrid and I don't know enough about Fox's coverage to say anything, and don't particularly care what they had to say.

* Joe Scarborough, when he's not being a GOP shill, is actually quite interesting to listen to. He makes valid points and actually comes across as likable - when he's praising Dems, that is.

* I think Kerry's speech tonight will either be an A+ or an F. You're either going to be sitting at the tv, riveted to every word or you're going to be falling asleep after the 5-minute mark. Kerry has to start this speech strong and never give up the audience's attention. Don't take forever to get going. Be strong right from the very first sentence.

* Oh, and no yellow or orange frilly ties please.

1. Did you especially enjoy Matthews when he said no one could compete
with bush on the Bullhorn?

2. I thought of some things, too:
1. How many inbred Republicans hicks channel-surfed Tuesday night, saw a bunch of Democrats waving "Obama" signs and thought we were saying "Osama"?

2. As a die-hard Dean supporter, I wondered how the Convention organizers slipped Dean the downers he had obviously taken. I want "Mad As Hell" Dean, not Mr Rogers

3. Ted Kennedy is an old bore. His speech was one of the worst: too long and nowhere near interesting. Andy why did you have a historian few people have ever heard of introduce you while your neice CAROLINE is sitting ten feet away????

4. Hillary Clinton needs to get over herself. The sour expression on her face during Teresa Kerry's speech made me want to slap her. Hey, Hillary, you are NEVER going to be president!!!

5. I never thought I'd say this, but I LIKE AL SHARPTON! His evolution from track-suit clad lunatic to credible voice for the down-trodden is amazing. So far, think his speech was the best, narrowly edging out Bill and Obama.

6. John Edwards is married to a real woman, not some pant-suited tranq-ued out mannequin like Pickles Bush. The fact that Elizabeth Edwards calls herself an "Anti Barbie Doll" makes me like her even more!

7. What disgruntled staffer told Christie Vilsack that that horrid polka-dot dress from Tuesday night looked good on her? My God, she looked like Doris Day back from the dead!

GREAT PRODUCTION. Very smart and adds immeasurably to the impact of the convention.

* I think Barak Obama could run for anything he wants to and win it immediately. Hell, Kerry could have chosen him as his running mate and after hearing him give one speech, nobody would care how inexperienced he is. He blows Edwards away, for my money.

Obama will be President in 2020.

* Edwards speech wasn't a homerun for me, but a solid line-drive double.

This was calculated, I believe. Edwards is an incredible speaker and I feel he was operating at about 80% capacity so as to leave some room for Kerry to raise the intensity tonight. On the campaign trail, Edwards will be fantastic.

* CSPAN is cool.
Totally unfiltered and the way to go.

*MSNBC is surprisingly good (esp Chris Matthews).
I cannot disagree more, Matthews is positive the absolute minimum he can be without being accused of faux's total propagandizing. They always have 4 wrong wingers to the one token progressive.

*CNN is horrid
Agreed. See MSRNC above.

* Fox's coverage
Complete publican antagonistic propaganda.

* Joe Scarborough, when he's not being a GOP shill, is actually quite interesting to listen to. He makes valid points and actually comes across as likable - when he's praising Dems, that is.
His disingenous pro Dem comments are merely to deflect critisism of his obvious radical wrong wing bias.

* I think Kerry's speech tonight will either be an A+ or an F.
It's make or break. I am confident they will not be underprepared.

5. Chris Matthews is worthless.
Why ask a question if you're NEVER going to allow ANYONE you're interviewing to ANSWER that question?

Political conventions are his Viagra, and he's one of those rare cases where "an erection lasts longer than four hours." He needs medical attention.

He gets too excited; the saliva flies; he cuts everyone else; his voice gets higher and louder ... and no one gets ANYTHING out of the discussion.

7. The main thing I keep noticing, day after day..

9. yup
contrast that with what the GOP will pull in NYC

Where all the black people are up on stage, just like the slave sales I bet their ancestors fondly remember.

8. Agreed on Obama
and his resume looks as good as his oratory style.

Hillary Clinton WAS trying to gain control of an unruly crowd. The speakers are on an isolation mike, which cuts out ambient noise. That's also why a lot of the cheering sounds a bit subdued.

First Ladies always polarize people. Laura Bush tries to project the meekest, least controversial persona in the world (if you like 50s sitcom mommies), and she is reamed for it.

If you don't have cable and can't get Cspan, try PBS. You can mute that smarmy nitwit Brooks when you need to, which you do every time he's at a loss for words and starts dittoing RNC talking points out of context.

Agreed about the ties. The only time to wear a yellow tie is with a black shirt in a crime movie.

10. I wondered if the camera men for PBS were Republicans...
Shots of the crowd showed the dead people...people yawning, talking, staring blankley into space..uninterested and dead.

I even emailed PBS and asked them what was up with the camera men. Then when I switched to C-Span I realized there were 6 times more people there and they were in a party mood....

11. yeah, and they love showing women in veils, too
The unions in Boston are full of Archie Bunker types who prefer lighting and broadcasting hockey games. I would imagine that's who's doing the camera work for PBS in Boston.
