13. Well I know what those are but the way you worded it
wasn't that clear... So you want him to purchase one vest? How about we all donate our slaries towards this noble cause?

6. NO. $300,000 wouldn't even make a drop in the bucket.
I don't object the the President earning $300,000 as much as I object to Congress earning (or not) thier salary.

Wether I agree with them or not, Presidents really do earn their salary. It doesn't matter which one you look at. Compare a picture from the day they took office to the day they leave! Every one aged 20 years in the four years they were there.

8. I believe it is 400,000
Either way, that will buy a lot of vest. In 4 years that will be over 1 million dollars.

10. I wish we had a law that said no CEO could make more money than the Prez
of course, then we'd have presidents drawing down $250,000 an hour like Eisner. :eyes:

11. Awful idea.
Is this going to be a qualifier? We elect the man so rich he'll never miss the money?

And if we want to elect another Clinton who doesn't have a private fortune? Will he be looked on as stealing from us because he takes his salary?

How about when a corporation offers to sponsor a free President?

This is NOT a precedent you want to set. Ever. WE support our President. Not special interests or private fortunes.

16. I believe when Reagan took office it was 90,000 so all the
money the rethugs saved by cutting programs they put in their pockets. Congress does this every year. These guys are not longer servants of the people. They make more money than they can on the outside and they get great health insurance and lots of other bennies.

14. vest? if you mean vets then I would say no
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 02:52 PM by neoteric lefty
It is a noble cause to donate to any established charity especially ones to help our veterans, but I don't think he should be pressured to or choose to give up his salary just because he speaks about how the government is not doing its job in supporting them. If anyone said he should, then I say they should donate their salaries to pay for this war that the support (if they do).I am not talking about you.

It is a preposterous idea. Let's do away with the tax system and tell everyone to pay what they think is fair. Of course I am being ridiculous but anyone who pressures argues that a person has to donate to a cause that they believe is being disingenuous.

on edit: You do mean vests.... same applies.

15. The Pentagon can't account for $1 trillion.....
There must be enough money under the sofa cushions at the Pentagon to pay for vests.
