fun quote/story from john kerry: "members of the fourth estate, ive called |
|
you here to tell you your reign is over" according to cnn kelly wallace blog...
Posted: 1:23 p.m. ET july 29 From Kelly Wallace, CNN National Correspondent
Sen. John Kerry came into the FleetCenter wearing a blue blazer over a blue Oxford.
He smiled when he got to the podium and then spoke to the traveling press
"I can't hear a word you're saying," he said.
And then, standing at the mike, "This is great. Can we do it now?"
It sounded like he then said "great hall."
Kerry teased the press, mouthing words as if he were delivering his speech, gesturing with his hands.
He then said, "Members of the fourth estate. I've called you here to tell you your reign is over."
He then cupped his hand over his ear, pretending he could not hear any questions.
Kerry stood at the podium, looked at the teleprompter, and went over to the side of the stage from where he is expected to walk. (It's on the left.)
He gave a thumbs up as he left the stage. A few people in the hall applauded as he entered and left.

its not just so much that they are blatant (though many times they are). its that they act somehow as if they have been stricken dumb. as if they dont know what they are actually doing when they read the talking points verbatim or ask some inane question, and the tragedy that they are contributing to...

2. If he really means that... |
|
...he's given me another reason to feel good about voting for him. I'd even venture to say that many of us on "this side" are ANGRIER at the media than we are at Bush, because if the media were doing it's job, Bush wouldn't be a damned issue.

8. Sure. Great for Kerry to stand up to the press. BUT... |
|
The press are just LOOKING for slip-ups to skewer Kerry with.
Look, whether the press is or is not fair is a big issue, yes (of course they aren't). But Kerry doesn't need to give free ammo with which to shoot him.
This may have been a joke directly to media who were present, and were in on it, and maybe it just reads more serious than it was. But I'm sorry, I'm betting they will use it to cast him as elitist and anti-free speech. Just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's what all the media outlets and Repub critics are going to be saying about him tonight and tomorrow.

This was aimed at those of us who have been screaming about the fellating mediawhores these past three and a half years.

11. Fuck the whores all Kerry has to say is that he will reinstate the |
|
fairness doctrine and then do it once he is in office.

12. That may well be. Like the comment about the right wing attack machine... |
|
... some time ago. What was it he said?
Anyway, that time, there was a minor hubub, he stood by what he said, and it died down. Bullies tend to shut up when you call them on it.
So half of me agrees with you and thinks that's what he's doing here.
But the other half fears we could end up with a "John Kerry hates the press" mud-fest tonight, at the expense of actually talking about his speech. You don't want to make enemies of the press, at least not during a campaign. The press hated Gore, and they never let up on him.
Okay, he still won. But not by enough to actually WIN.
