About this "May GOD bless you" stuff
We are a "Melting Pot" nation of various ethnic and religious backgrounds. Wouldn't it be more all-inclusive to say "May you (America) be blessed" instead of "May God bless you (America)."?

It's just a slice of semantics that really bugs me.

I'll go back and sit quietly in my corner now.......

Psssssssst.......The Whispering Campaign is calling your name......

2. even worse...
is "God Bless." If it has to be said, how hard is it to add a "you" on there?

7. I agree with you.
I always want to ask, "Okay, but which one?" :silly:

I've learned to accept it in the spirit in which it's given.

That's a hallmark of maturity, IMHO.

9. Thanks.
I used to be a hotheaded one when it came to that kind of thing. It took me a long time to get to this place.

I'm glad I did though. :)

It only bothers me when the Republicans say it.

10. It's called pandering
And it's one of my least favorite traits in a politician. Not pandering in general, just when it comes to gawd. I don't believe in gawd, so I find it irritating. However, our guys are SOOOOO much better than their guys that I choose not to let it be an issue for me.

20. Dunce cap? Third grade?
Oh, EXCUSE ME! I didn't know we were being graded nor did I expect a simple comment/personal observation to be met with such rudeness. That's usually a tactic of the Repugs. If you've got such a Big Brain and you're so damn superior why couldn't you make your point without the belittling nastiness, hmmmmm?

Sheesh!

16. It wouldn't bother me if a Muslim said something like
"May Allah bless you" or something like that and I'm Catholic. It's a positive thing to say to someone regardless of what religion you practice or if you practice no religion at all.

I dunno I just don't get offended when someone says positive things to me even if they are in a religious context.

It's when you start saying "if you don't believe in my God, or God, or my religion you're in trouble" talk that gets me riled up

18. Ditto. If the sayer believes in God, then it's okay with me if they
want to bless me in His name. Or the name of whoever they believe in (except Satan, I guess).

This religion thing is getting way too particular, on both sides, for me. I tend to get offended only with signs on public property, and the bigger stuff like that.

17. The only funny line from Chris Rock's movie...
...Head of State is when the GOP candidate closes his speeches with "God Bless America...and nobody else"

21. This seems like a paranoid line of thought, to me.
As someone else pointed out, if a Muslim said something like "may Allah bless you," I'd feel pretty darned good. It would be a kind thing to say.

It indicates respect.

22. I've always looked at it like this
There's one Creator who made all of us, and if He's not going to get hung up on what name us humans call Him, then why should I?

Using the generic "God" at a convention is probably the most inclusive thing they can do. And if people want to substitute the names Allah, Yahweh, Elohim, Jesus, Great Spirit, Tunkasila, Big Dude In The Sky or whatever, that is between them and the Creator.

24. I know that the only negative reaction I have these days to
any mention of God, whether it is God Bless America {which I hope He does, or will) to God this, or God that ... comes from my perception that the Republicans have hijacked the name of God and religion for their own evil purposes. Sometimes I believe that they don't even know God. They couldn't say or do half of the things they say or do if they did believe in God.
