"Hair pollution"
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 10:27 PM by DrBB
On another thread, someone asked "What's Karl Rove thinking???" And earlier today, on AAR, a very shrewd comment from a Dem operative was to the effect that everthing was irrelevant save getting out the message. It's a war about getting out the message.

Well, let's enjoy our moment, but let's not kid ourselves either.

They've done a great job of piggybacking THEIR perspective on media coverage of OUR convention. With coverage pared down to a mere 3 hours, and all the really significant stuff (like Obama's speech) completely embargoed, the job has been made much easier for the GOP. And meanwhile even ostensibly "left" outlets like NPR and PBS making sure to assiduously cover (all in the name of "fair and balanced") the ReichPublican p.o.v. about what's going on. Think they'll have Dem commentators getting as much air time during the GOP convention? Not if current statistics are any guide. Meanwhile, starting already, they're doing their best to damp down any genuine enthusiasm that manages to burn through the blanket interpretation of "Well, it's just left-wing propaganda after all" with comments about how "They did a pretty good, but imperfect job of covering up their Hatred of Our Preznit, but it was simmer below everything nevertheless," and "What kind of weirdo party would let a weird guy like Al Sharpton come anywhere near the mike," and "Let's talk about Kerry's makeup, didn't he have funny makeup on? No? What about his hair, was that funny? Didn't he say something about 'hair pollution'?"

"Hair pollution." Oh my god. He said 'hair pollution.' for a party that has made so much of George Bush's verbal stumbles, clearly the chief story of the convention will be that, when it came right down to it, when they chips were down, Kerry said "Hair pollution."

All to be followed by the Reichpublican convention, in which the exact reverse will take place: any Dem perspectives will be treated as noise, or as a coerced concession to "fairness" when really we know the only really fair thing would be for all of em to burn in hell, goddam antipatriotic bastids. And "they're just carping," and "Wasn't Cheney brilliant?" or fill in the name of whatever centrist Puke they trotted out (won't be any speeches by the Delay/Coulter wing). Followed by "Oh my god, Dear Leader really showed us that he IS the Commander of 9/11 with that speech, what a brilliant War--er, Peace--president he is!"

All in order to achieve what media bias is most critically oriented towards: a 50/50 (or better yet, 48/48/4) race.

----

Or to put it another way, I repeat: let's enjoy our moment, but let's not kid ourselves either. This is going to be an uphill fight all the way.

2. NPR and PBS are not left or even center anymore.
And the pukes are the media, there is NO division between them.
