Ron Reagan Esquire article: destroys Bush.
One of the best lines: "Bush is ineloquent not because he cannot speak but because he doesn't bother to think."

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX THU JULY 29, 2004 10:24:25 ET XXXXX

RON REAGAN RIPS BUSH IN ESQUIRE ESSAY

Ron Reagan has written a scathing, sweeping, 4,100 word critique of President Bush (not on stem cell) that will be appearing in next month's ESQUIRE magazine. Reagan doesn't hold back in this candid piece where he shares his real feelings towards our 43rd President.

"The Bush Administration cannot be trusted."

"George W. Bush and his administration have taken normal mendacity to a startling new level far beyond lies of convenience."

"They traffic in big lies, indulge in any number of symptomatic small lies, and ultimately, have come to embody dishonesty itself. They are a lie. And people, finally, have started catching on."

"When Nobel laureates, a vast majority of the scientific community, and a host of current and former diplomats, intelligence operatives, and military officials line up against you, it becomes increasingly difficult to characterize the opposition as fringe wackos."

"Given candidate Bush's remarks, it was hard to imagine him, as president, flipping a stiff middle finger at the world and charging off adventuring in the Middle East."

"Even as of this writing, Dick Cheney clings to his mad assertion that Saddam was somehow at the nexus of a worldwide terror network."

"What followed was the usual administration strategy of stonewalling, obstruction and obfuscation."

"But image is everything in this White House, and that image of George Bush as a noble and infallible warrior in the service of his nation must be fanatically maintained, because behind the image lies*nothing?"

"He is ineloquent not because he cannot speak but because he doesn't bother to think."

"His Republican party, furthermore, seems a far cry from the current model, with its cringing obeisance to the religious Right and its kill-anything-that-moves attack instincts."

5. Damn It, I'm Now A Reaganite!!!
Ron has impressed me no end over the last year. Not just in his coming forward as he has...which has to take 1,000 foot balls as he knew what the hivedwellers would do...but in the way he does it. He's intelligent, humorous and extremely personable.

Here's hoping Ron's now going to be a regular voice on the political scene...either as a pundit (where he's a natural) or possibly in some capacity. He's just downright refreshing.

BTW...I'm watching MSGOP with the Freeper outside the window...bet he paid the network to get his signs in there.

11. I hope he runs for office one day.
I know he says he doesn't want to because he thinks his chances as a secularist is near nil. But I hope he changes his mind, and the country moves forward from the Dark Ages and he manages to get elected into office some day.

Right now we need those types just as much as politicians. I hope MSGOP seriously thinks of giving him his own program...sure looks like they're giving him a very good lookover this week.

20. Ron Reagan is not a Jr.
I really like him. He is a natural;a refreshing, informative, humorous pundit. He seems to enjoy it and it shows. I noticed that when almost everyone else was wearing suits and ties he wore jean jacket an T-Shirt. He has got moxy, wit and charm.

30. The aircraft carrier
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 10:26 AM by MUSTANG_2004
It was a very good read. And his point about the aircraft carrier was spot-on - the "Mission Accomplished" banner was a PR mis-step, and why was the White House unable to stand-up on something so small and admit it was responsible and had made a misjudgment.

Ron is right that Bush is very different than Ron's dad.

31. Okay, guys, here's what you can do:
Link to this, or buy the magazine at the newsstands. Read and thoroughly enjoy the article. Take note of the MANY talking points Ron has thoughtfully and creatively provided. They can be of BIGTIME use in LETTERS TO THE EDITOR! Even just ONE. It's hard to pick which is best, they're ALL so good! I ESPECIALLY like that "they don't trust us, why should we trust them?"

THEN, WRITE THAT LETTER TO THE EDITOR. WRITE TWO. One to "Esquire" - thanking them for printing this - ie. THE TRUTH. And then one to your local paper or some other publication you read or know about. You can send it online or by snail mail.

JUST DO IT. It'll take a couple of minutes. And it just might save the next four years.

34. amazing
I just finished the full article, and all I can say is....wow. This was the most cogent, powerful article I've seen yet against the Bush* cabal.

I just wish that it had been published in a more broadly-read magazine, such as Time or Newsweek. Or maybe the fact that it wasn't tells us volumes about the interests that run our media.

36. yes
I really liked the way he developed the points about the bush liars. There is a paragraph in there that explains that they lie when it doesn't even serve their own best interests, which really is a way of pointing out the fact that they can't think issues through. Can't see down the road.

I'm really struck by the writing. It is powerful!! He is quite a talent.
