7. Interesting
He doesn't protect Bush at all and points out how bad the economy actually is and doesn't show ill thoughts torwards Kerry.

14. He's old-school conservative
Not the new type that are complete GOP tools. He recognizes Bush for what he is, a big-government money-waster masquerading as a fiscal conservative. He also actually knows a thing or two about the economy, and doesn't buy the standard GOP bullshit about how well it's doing.

23. No other TV commentator has been as dogged in decrying
the offshoring and other corporate actions that have killed off American jobs.

Doesn't sound very "conservative" to me.

3. But what percentage of thier daily air time does that comprise?
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 12:45 AM by FDRrocks
I turned to CNN for 10 seconds tonite, shortly after Kerry finished, before the balloons dropped if I'm not mistaken, and they already had a woman on thier criticising the lack of substance in Kerry's speech. I wonder how they're going to pull that shit during the debates.

Fuck MSNBCNN. And super fuck Faux.

4. I sometimes wonder if Dobbs isn't an opportunist.
Or he could just have foresight beyond his peers, knows the game is about to change and is painting himself as one of the 'good' conservatives.

6. True, those are the bright spots.
Crossfire's format forces them to actually allow the left to talk at least part of the time, and in the realm of ideas, they are no match for us.

I actually miss the days when the right had some sort of intellectual integrity.

18. Well, I guess Dobbs is an example of that dying breed.
I wouldn't call him a liberal, either, just an honest conservative -- it is possible -- and those are the people we need to forge our bipartisan alliances with.

8. Lou was awful the other night -- first night of convention.

I've enjoyed his anti-NAFTA anti-outsourcing drumbeat but he went to the dark side.

"Crossfire" allows Novak and Carlson to spew lies, with Carville and Begala not doing all they could to counteract the lies.

9. Dobbs is conservative
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 12:47 AM by RatTerrier
But he has more integrity than anyone at CNN.

What other TV journalist hits so hard on outsourcing and paperless e-voting?

Lou's a class act.

13. Agreed that Dobbs is a class act
And he didn't go over to the dark side he *came back* from the dark side.

I don't think he's an opportunist; he's chosen a rough path.
The opportunists are all lined up on the other side, suckling from the corporate teat. (Gross.) He's speaking out against corporate interests, and he's been doing it long enough to earn his stripes.
I think he's doing what he thinks is right; he is an economist so he knows what he's talking about. And CNN doesn't know what to do about him. They thought he was a good little boot licking soldier and them he came back from the dark side. Curses...

12. all the talking heads are doing...
...is adjusting their words and phrases to better mimic and market to the consumers their advertizers depend upon- a segment of the population that is showing less amity towards Bush for his failure to maintain a good image while simultaneously torturing, killing and robbing on their and his base's behalf, than the actual crimes being committed in their name. Their- the propaganists of corporate control- main talents lie in appearing to be whatever the public wants them to be and an ability to shift when necessary.

15. No shit. Dobbs is far from liberal.
He just realizes the need forr a middle class for a vital economy. We are heading back to the gilded age as it is.

As for Crossfire, Carville and Begala own Tucker and Novakula simply because they are better and the show hasn't been rigged, unlike a certain show whose name rhymes with "Dammity and Foams".

Buchanan and Press is fairly balanced too.

17.  Call Lou what you will, he advocates for american labor

If I were advising Kerry, I would suggest hiring him as SecTreasury.

People trust him. Let the Deputies be the number crunchers.

He would be a choice that would help unify the country.

20. Crossfire was moved
to a less visable time IMO and it's time was slashed from a hour to half an hour. Not that much of a presence IMO.

24. No One Noticed Robert Rubin Did They???
Seated next to Teresa. That was a very strong message to "The Street" that if you elect this guy, you get that guy...the one who saw the market go through the roof in the 90's. Another cleaver move!

Dobbs is no liberal...I have no idea where he stands socially, but he's as Wall Street as they come. He's also pissed with this regime for the corporate scandals that have hurt his beloved street and probably wiped out a ton of his portfolio. Guaranteed his AOL/TW stock...which I'm sure he had a nice chunk of...tanked bigtime.

BTW...I thought I heard Dobbs was leaving CNN, again. Not sure when his contract is up. I guess that's why they've been auditioning John King and Katie Pilgrim regularly in his place.

One note about Crossfire. It's still burried at 4:30pm...great for the beltway crowd belting down their highballs, but it's not repeated so most people who work can't see it.
