I think Kerry won over another life-long Republican tonight...
This one is pretty good win, IMO.

My mother in law.

She is a hard-core, evangelical Christian conservative. A life-time Republican. She is a military wife and military mother. Voted for Bush in '04 and was proud of his Christian values.

Oh, and she's an Arizona voter. ;)

I took her to see F911 and she started asking questions. She really started to question Bush.

I showed her Outfoxed last weekend, and she said she saw what they were doing and stopped watching Fox, but she said that she was still probably voting for Bush.

I talked to her for another couple of hours about what the Democrats want to do differently that night. And she had lots of questions about specifics Kerry policy choices.

I showed her the Barack Obama speech, and she was really impressed. She loved his optimism, and the contrast to the Republican negativity.

Then tonight, we watched the Kerry speech together. She was very, very impressed.

By the end of his speech, she told me that Kerry addressed everything that she wanted him to. She agreed with him on almost all of the policy statements he made. She had a few lingering questions about how he can pay for all of the promises he made.

I have a little research on that so we can discuss it next weekend... but I think John Kerry won over another former Bush voter.

It was quite a night!

1. Good, but keep at it with her
They're called swing voters for a reason. Take nothing for granted.

4. Great news, zaj
That Kerry speech must have been very impressive indeed. It also won over my sister who voted for Bush last time.

5. That is great! One at a time
And if you can get her good and convinced, perhaps she can help carry the message.

Yay for you and your open-minded mother-in-law.

6. Everywhere I look and read am hearing about Repubs and undecideds
who are going to vote for Kerry. Michael Moore said he is getting 6000 emails and letters a day from people like this, God I hope we bury these bastards in November
