July 29, 2004 — He said he was out of the race five weeks ago, now Republican Jack Ryan has officially withdrawn from the U.S. Senate race. He filed the papers this morning to have his name removed from the ballot

Now that Jack Ryan is officially off the ballot, the Illinois Republican Party is one step closer to picking up the pieces and starting over in the race for U.S. Senate.


It took the one-time bright star of the Party of Lincoln five weeks to fill out the half-page of paperwork needed to pull out. So now, the state GOP has no more excuses. Officials said that next week the party will announce their replacement on the Republican ticket.
