Put a Kerry bumper sticker on my car: Gets keyed within 12 hours
My family came into town to visit me and my sister who are currently living in Ridgefield, CT & Newport, RI respectively and my mom came bringing goodies. Kerry goodies that is. Bumper stickers, buttons, brochures, etc. She lives in Wisconsin so those items are in surplus and handed out for free.

I watched Kerry's speech with my family in the hotel room and Kerry was amazing. I took a bumper sticker for the road and slapped it on my car right next to my Clark sticker. I parked my car in my apartment parking lot and woke up the next morning to find that my Kerry bumper sticker had been keyed in several places.

When I find someone with a Bush bumper sticker, I write them a note telling them why I support Kerry or why they shouldn't vote for Bush. I don't do it when it's going to rain because I don't want them to have to deal with a pile of mushy crap on their windshield. This is how I get repaid.

(Side note: When I see an pro-Kerry/anti-Bush bumper sticker, I always leave a note of "'Way to go', etc. and tell them to check out Democraticunderground.com)

(Side note #2: After seeing Kerry's speech last night compared to Clark's, I admit that Kerry is the better candidate and that I'm glad that we have Kerry instead of Clark. I supported Kerry since Clark endorsed him, but now I can truly say that I'm pumped for Kerry!)

1. I just can't understand the mental state of anyone who keys cars or
otherwise tries to deface something that belongs to someone else. Jeeeze. What the hell is wrong with people?

21. That is so easy to explain
The only thing these people know how to do is destroy, destroy, destroy. This is what * is all about; everything he touches turns to dust and they have the same mentality. It's an uphill battle, but we will be successful. My problem is that I am so afraid of what they will do when * loses.

28. They had the 'decency' to not key the car itself, just the bumpersticker
But it looks all beat up. I need a new one now.

2. Write LTTE to your local papers
Each of us should call attention to these cowardly and infantile acts when they happen. People need to know what sort of mentality
junta-supporting jingoists idiots have. We need to call them on their crimes each and every time.

3. Clark + Report it to the police!
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 11:04 AM by dsewell
--File a police report! They may grumble about having to come out for a misdemeanor vandalism offense (I assume), but so what? It's a crime, it will get added to crime statistics; you'll make the point that you take this seriously and that Kerry supporters aren't going to take this crap lying down; and if you're polite and earnest when the police come you might just win someone's vote, who knows?

I still think Clark might make the better president -- but Kerry has proven to be the better candidate. And you've got to be the best candidate to be president in the first place. One of the occupational hazards of democracy.

4. Sorry to hear that. I've been fortunate . . .
I not only have Kerry stickers & I some anti-Bush as well & have had no problems other than one a-hole who flipped me off.

They are a mean spirited, nasty group of people who live in fear.

5. We're fighting some real creeps out there
Don't expect them to be fair. The Bush stormtroopers are fed by a powerful but toxic mix of hate, fear, and penis envy.

Stay proud but watch your back. I just bought three Kerry yard signs in anticipation of the rethugs stealing or damaging the signs one by one. However as soon as they steal a sign I'll have a new one up the next day.

We've also stuck some of our more controversial anti-Bush Bumper stickers on magnetic sheets so we can put them on our cars and take them off easily. This also allows us to apply them on prominent places while not worrying about the paint job.

7. Yep. That's why I don't sport one.
Sorry guys, I just can't afford the repairs. There are some very nasty and cowardly people around this neck of the country who are running scared and want to intimidate.

I'll fight back by talking about Kerry and voting for him, but I'm not going to invite a criminal act that I have to end up paying for which the cops won't even take the time to investigate beyond filling out the police report.

9. I would suggest that you don't "tamper" in any way
with other's bumper stickers. It seems obvious that there's something to karma in that, despite your good intentions, it came back to you.

Would you really like to get a note from a repug attached to your Kerry bumper sticker enumerating the reasons to vote for Shrub? I sure as hell wouldn't. That's why I would tend to leave private property alone.

Respectfully,

Stew

13. shows you the mentality of the "other side" in some cases
Although not every republican would key your car, it is the scary real weirdos who think you should be punished for not thinking like them. They are pants-shitting cowards in a confrontation and prefer to key your car when you're not there.

These are the same people who drive down my street and scream "faggot" (just because) and then peel out (mostly because I look like I could beat the crap out of them, and would), but it isn't a big leap to think that a molotov cocktail might come flying through my kitchen window one day as they escalate the cowardice.

If I were to place bets, I'd bet the shrub probably keyed more than a few cars in his day, after he got done blowing up frogs.

14. That sucks...
ALthough the only thing that saddens me is the nasty mentality. A car is just a hunk of metal. My car got keyed back in Florida, possibly due to my stickers. It's only an Escort wagon, I would still put this stickers on ( I sill have a Kerry and a bartcop one). I never bothered to even fix the scratches.

Then again, When I was younger, I was known to key cars that were parked in very inconsiderate ways. But I never thought about keying them just because I didn't like their stickers.

Not that I'm recommending it. It still pisses me off when people park a foot into the next space. Ive seen them parked half in one space, half in another, like they want an extra buffer between their car and all the other cars.

I guess I was pretty bad in my youth. Sometimes at the apartment complex, people would park in the fire zone, where if you park there, people exiting the complex would be forced to slide down the slippery iceplant hill because doing so made the stairs impassible. I used to stand on my 2nd story balcony and chuck eggs at the offending cars.

All these events are wayyy past the statute of limitations, 'kay?

Moral: Keying cars for political stickers= Evil and mean. Keying or egging parking scofflaws= youthful exuberance!

16. First day of my Kerry bumpersticker, I was almost driven off the road
by a massive black pickup that appeared out of nowhere. I was tailgated dangerously close at 50 miles an hour, high beams flashed at me, then the pickup would slow down and come roaring up behind me, almost touching my bumper. My children were completely freaked out, so I actually turned off the road and they honked and roared past. The pickup had darkened windows so I couldn't see the occupants.

I was very shaky for a few minutes and was considering taking the sticker off, but then I got angry and I'm keeping it on!

25. I tried that and it seemed to make them angrier,
so I just wasn't sure what else to do. Also, I was starting to panic and so pulling off the road seemed to be the best bet.

It just tells me so much about the mental mindset of * fanatics. By the reaction, you would have thought I had an anti-Jesus slogan on my car. These people are frightening...

20. You should have gotten the liscence number
and reported this careless and imprudent driving. Endangering the lives of children over a lousy bumpersticker was a sick scare tactic from a chickenshit in a big black truck. I hope you used this to educate your children on how politics should NOT be carried out. Politics is a mental excersize first, and a physical one second. Politics is not a contact sport.

and I only made the decision to keep the sticker on when I knew they understood what this campaign is about. They are 8 and 12 years old and have a good grasp of the consequences of this election.

I tried to get the license number but I was concentrating on driving and they roared past too quickly for me to get it. But, I know what the pickup looks like and if I see it again, I'm taking down the license plate.

30. My stickers are inside the car
mounted on foam core with Velcro so they'll stay up.
And so I can reverse them when I park. The Kerry sticker stays, no matter where I park but the one that says 'Bush Lied, Thousands Died' reverses to say 'Think, Criticize, Vote!'.
We've only had one problem while driving, and that was just before the start of the Iraq war when I had a sign that said Regime Change Begins at Home, Impeach Bush.
Guy in a Hummer on the SureKill Deathway got all bent out of shape and started screaming at me. Didn't have the presence of mind to ask if the only way he could get a hummer was to buy one.

33. Bush's people are criminal bullying childish brats. I saw
a big sign at Books A Million that was a blown up photo of Bill Clinton in front of the display with his memoirs. Someone had scratched his face up with a coin or something ... it was all white marked up. The sign is in line of sight of the cashiers and is right at the front door. I thought ...how did someone get away with doing this? And what an asshole to actually deface a poster of a President!

34. This proves how divisive the Bush administration has made us.
Bush has divided Americans into two warring camps. I remember back when we wore our buttons and our bumper stickers in a spirit of friendly competition, like cheering for your favorite team. This man has made politics into a kind of civil war. I truly hate what he has done to us more and more everyday.
