OK. OK. I'm breaking out the extra-strength Nose-Pin again.
For the second time, I'm switching back to vote for Kerry. Not because of his speech at the convention. Not because I admire him, or even respect him. As a vet myself, who marched, and protested against the horror of Vietnam, I find his pro-military, pro-occupation stance disgusting. And it's certainly not because of the endless apologia for his stands from the "moderates" on this board.

Rather, I will be voting for him because the alternative of even giving a tiny chance by voting Green, as I intended to do, for Bush to be elected is too much of a chance.

But, the real convincer for me was the posts of some fellow leftists here, who feel much as I do, who will reluctantly vote for Kerry and then hit the streets to remind him of what he once stood for.

I've wanted him to win since he got the nomination. I've had a Kerry bumpersticker on my car since he clinched it. I just wasn't going to vote for him.

But, hell, I tell myself, if Al Sharpton, Dennis Kucinich, and the fellow lefties here can vote for Kerry and hope that, somehow, we can
move this party and the country towards peace and justice, I'll do the same.

1. Good enough for me

As one who dealt with labor issues and did NOT go to sleep when Clinton got elected and was actively WORKING AGAINST some of his proposals through organized labor, all I can say is that NO LEADER can govern unwatched.

You can take pride in the slow pull away if not a complete reversal of policy.

9. You hit it on the head. I definitely dozed under Clinton,
but never, ever again.

Exactly, because if Bush gets another four years you can expect to see many, many more announcements like this one:

7/30/04
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON - The Environmental Protection Agency will be free to approve pesticides without consulting wildlife agencies to determine whether the chemical might harm plants and animals protected by the Endangered Species Act, according to new Bush administration rules. (from today's Cape Cod Times)

5. I'm with you and NSMA on this one
He wasn't *my* dog in this fight when it started and I have major problems with much of the "we'll fight a smarter bigger faster war and occupy Iraq better too!" rhetoric but if Kucinich can get on board, that's a pretty good recommendation for me. But, I'm watching him on issues related to:
health care, poverty, labor, and reproductive rights.

Bumpersticker? Nope. Not since having a DU sticker in my corner of Texas got us a broken back window---AND the peeled pieces of the sticker thrown in with it. I envy those of you who have that luxury. I'll have to just give votes and money until I can afford a throw-away car! (BTW, I have not seen ONE Kerry sticker, commercial or yard sign in West Texas---its like the election isn't happening out here)

6. America is a ponderous beast and the damage is great.

It's gonna take a while and we may never get everything we want. That said, we sure can make some improvements. Starting right now.

The first improvement we need is to send the present chuckleheads to the Dantean Ring of Hell they so richly deserve. Once we clean up that mess, then start on all the others they will be leaving behind.

7. Let's vote Kerry in and get our election reform so that there can be
a President Kucinich, McKinney, or Obama in our future.

Keep fighting the good fight!

8. I told a neighbor yesterday...
...or was it the day before? Anyway, he's a third party booster, but I said, "The reason I'll feel good, even as an independent and supporter of more political choices, about voting for John Kerry is that he has always been a strong supporter of kicking our dependence on foreign oil. He also supports policies that will enable a brighter future for my children. Having children, I can't bear to make them suffer 10 and 20 years down the line so I can feel good about my principles. And with Kerry, grassroots organizations may have a better chance of making advances. With Bush, we not only won't be heard, but our basic Bill of Rights will be under dire threat."

13. Don't just hit the streets
Work from the bottom up - get true liberals elected to your local school boards & town councils. That is where you can really make an impact. If everybody can do that, eventually you will force change and the people on the town councils will move up to state legislatures and up from there.

While we don't have the funding of the Religious Reich, that is how they did things - they started from the bottom and now they effectively control not only the Republican party, but also the Presidency & Congress.
