1. What's with the Carolinas?
I thought Edwards was supposed to help there.

Glad to see Tennessee is in the running.

Colorado needs to kick out all those transplanted Texans affecting their polls.

2. Actually, if you click on the previous report, Kerry is down from 291
to 289. They put Iowa in a tie (-7 for Kerry) and added WV to Kerry(+5 for Kerry) for a net loss of 2 electoral votes. However it does appear to be getting bluer with the state count and Iowa will come back around.

4. The problem with that site
is that he uses the latest available poll with no discernment. So, if Gallup and ABC and Zogby all come out on Wednesday for example, and shows Kerry up 6 in Minnesota, and on Thursday some local TV station says Bush is up 2, on Friday he lists the state for Bush.

5. a good solution would be...
... to pick which polls are being used for the graphic, combine them (by state of course!) and divide by the number of polls used in for that state. Getting a nice average out of the numbers.

I think, that's the best solution with polls, which are by nature, wonky.
