Was the Convention Producer on-the-air with his knowledge?
There seem to be two theories afloat:

1. The DNC Convention Producer, in an effort to give the closing a "behind-the-scenes" quirky angle, allowed himself to be miked by CNN and failed to keep his cool.

2. CNN, either deliberately or inadvertently, tapped into the director's wireless audio channel and gleefully kept running the audio when they heard him start to panic.

One is stupidity on the part of convention organizers. The other is a gross violation of Federal wiretapping laws, punishable by fine and/or prison.

Does anyone know which one it is?

1. I'll take #2
TV Productions like this are very tightly scripted, usually down to the second. It is very unusual for 'accidents' like this to happen or for the director not to stop it immediately if it does.
