Books vs. TV= us vs. them
Hey yall,

Feeling the excitement of Franken vs. Oh Really, reading Conason and learning about Coulter avoiding him, I'm thinking of liberal vs. conservative in terms of books vs. TV. Even with all the advantages the rightwingers have in "the media," it still seems apparent that we liberals write better books, read more books, and have a better edge in the literary world than we do in the world of journalism. Add the success of Hillary's book, the likely media frenzy over Bill's, David Corn coming out with another tome on Bush lies, and it seems like BOOKS are really key to turning around the situation in our favor.

TV is shallow, on TV the advantage is with the airheads, but ultimately there is a lot more TV airtime devoted to books than there are books about TV. The real creative energy is on our side, and it is starting to feel like a groundswell in our favor. There's not a seriously influential book likely to come out on the Repuke side between now and the election and we have one winner right after another.

Is this just the fantasy of an aging librarian, or is the power of books a crucial factor in winning back our country?

4. Only if books cannot subvert the power of
TV and turn it against itself. I think they can. With the help of course of all the non-whores left in the TV world.

3. i wish i had higher confidence in 'the people' reading books to change
thier thought process...they would rather bew told what to think.

They are soo busy earning a living...family and other...they don't have the energy to do other than trust what they hear...realize perhaps it doesn't add up...and ask the question..."but what can I do about it"....and go to Taco Bell to vote.
