Need help on the 87 billion thing!
I need credible links showing the two bills and who sponsored them. The one Dumbya vetoed and the one that Kerry voted against.

I already have his quote: "In giving the President this authority, I expect him to fulfill the commitments he has made to the American people in recent days--to work with the United Nations Security Council to adopt a new resolution setting out tough and immediate inspection requirements, and to act with our allies at our side if we have to disarm Saddam Hussein by force. If he fails to do so, I will be among the first to speak out."

But I need the data on this, quick!

1. no data here but all you really need to say is that
Kerry/Edwards didn't approve of the way the bill was being funded or of the way the resources were being wasted. It was a protest vote that was going to pass anyway.

2. maybe this will help
Kerry was unwilling to give president a blank check

“The way we help the soldiers and they way we help them win this is to be smart about who’s participating and how we’re spending the money. And I’m not going to give the president a blank check to pile debt on top of our children yet again, build the deficit up, because he’s unwilling to ask for shared sacrifice in America. … I’m prepared to spend whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq. But I want to spend the money smart. I don’t want to spend 87 billion dollars, when it comes from the average American, when it ought to be coming from the wealthiest Americans instead of President Bush’s tax cut, which is unfair and unaffordable.

There should be a shared sacrifice in effort

Sen. KERRY: Well, Senator Biden and I are introducing a effort to try to link the $87 billion to the reduction of the Bush tax cut at the high end, and we're doing that as a matter of shared sacrifice. We believe that the American people expect that if--if we're going to have to ante up money additionally in order to safeguard our troops and get this job done, that there should be a shared sacrifice in America, and I believe that.

3. Dumbya only THREATENED to veto the first bill
it wasn't voted on... they redid it withOUT asking for any way to repay the AMERICAN PEOPLE, which is why Dumbya threatened to veto it... he wanted US to foot the bill, directly contradicting what his evil minions told us BEFORE the war... that the oil profits would help us with the tab.

4. today's Daily Mislead re: Anti War statements

KERRY STATEMENT DISTORTED TO PUSH FLIP-FLOP CLAIM

In their desperate efforts to paint Senator John Kerry (D-MA) as a serial flip-flopper, President Bush's reelection campaign has resorted to gross distortions of his public statements. The campaign is now trumpeting the fact that Kerry, after voting to authorize the use of force in Iraq, described himself "as an anti-war candidate."<1> The claim is based on a clip of Kerry's 1/6/04 appearance on Hardball with Chris Mathews, which is featured in a new 12 minute "documentary" on Kerry produced by the Republican National Committee. This is how the RNC presents the interview:<2>

MSNBC'S CHRIS MATTHEWS: "Are you one of the anti-war candidates?"

KERRY: "I am - Yeah."

The real transcript of the interview reveals that the clip was doctored. Kerry was not trying to shift his position but actually reiterating his belief that President Bush made a mistake in the way he went to war. Here is the actual transcript:<3>

MATTHEWS: Do you think you belong to that category of candidates who more or less are unhappy with this war, the way it's been fought...Are you one of the anti-war candidates?

KERRY: I am -- Yes, in the sense that I don't believe the president took us to war as he should have, yes, absolutely.

5. Factcheck Debunks the Whole 87 billion thing here, w links to senate docs
For some reason I can't follow the links to senate docs right now, so I don't know if they are the bills or not.

Factcheck is indeed credible

http://factcheck.org/article.aspx?docid=155

<snip>

Announcer: And what does Kerry say now?

Kerry: I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it

Kerry was referring to a measure he co-sponsored that would have provided the $87 billion while also temporarily reversing Bush's tax cuts for those making $400,000 a year or more. That measure was rejected  57-42.
