Bill Mahr's wake up call to the South is working.
More and More Southerners are changing sides....unable to stomach the the deception/arrogance/and results.....planning on voting Kerry. It didn't take much, one or 2 out of a hundred was all it took... and now Kerry is the projected winner in a number of Red States(of 2000).....

Bush has done himself in......

1. I wanna believe you Opie...
I really do, but the maladministration is totally devoid of impulse control and insight into their own actions. Kind of a Meta-Sociopathology. They are not going to go gently into that Long Good Night. Everything is Possible with them.

We gotta work out tails off, like never before, and watch each others back.

2. Please, what was Bill Mahr's wake up call to the south? I missed it and
I would truly like to know what he said. I've seen more people asking me where I got bumperstickers, seen more stickers taking a shot at Bush so....I'm trying to be optimistic, yet tempered by where I live.

Like...he lied to you and now 1000 soldiers have paid the ultimate price.

Jobs are leaving southern states at a rapid clip....

I don't have a problem with voting with candidates from other regions of the country, but I know that I'm the "odd" one in my circle of folks that I know.

3. It's so comforting to think so

You know, we should boycott the media whores. You know, I become more and more convinced that they're out there performing for each other. They're so removed from regular people, middle-class Americans, it's so evident, we don't exist in their TV world, they don't speak for us, they lick Power, they are the goat licking ballsters of the rich. I hate them! They add NOTHING to REAL political discourse in this country. THEY are WHORES, and should be REVILED and SHUNNED.

I just turned of Fucker Carlson. He is a piece of excrement. And he's on PBS!

There are very few "journalists" I listen to these days.

The TV "News Media" on Sharpton's speech was disgusting. Did they address the issues he was talking about? NO!

Oh, and Kerry RUSHED his speech. Go fuck yourselves, you self-serving, groveling media elite.

11. Not only that
did you see Fineman and Doris Kern's reaction to Sharpton? Both looked like they were going to lose their lunch. They were sooo, soooo appalled that a black man would speak his mind. Doris in her cheap leatherette jacket looked like she would faint, and, Fineman, that well known black historian and street wise guy,(sarcasm), actually said that Sharpton would turn off black voters. They have no clue. They are empty in every way.

19. OMG it was off the set of Thriller, wasn't it? or maybe the Bad
video. What the hell was that?

Thank God, Thank God for Al Sharpton and every word he said "this vote is steeped in the blood of martyrs, this vote is SACRED to us."

I wish people would get it throught their thick heads that because of slavery and racism if black people tell the truth of their lives then white people WILL be made to feel uncomfortable. Period. We overlap, we races do. There will be friction burns. We need to get used to it and thank God that 'discomfort' is all that is visited upon us.

36. Excellent observation

And believe me, it's been my experience that African Americans know the score. (Yes, there are "conservative" blacks, but fortunately they're a miniscule, deluded, self-hating minority -- altho unusually well exploited by the right.) Their b.s. detectors are supreme. That comes from being an oppressed people for all these centuries. That's what you have to do have to do when you're oppressed, and especially when you're enslaved: know the enemy better than the enemy knows itself. They should be far more prominent throughout our Democratic leadership for this very reason. Again and again I find myself counting on the Congressional Black Caucus to more fully represent me, a white woman, than almost anyone else in Congress.

37. Mike Malloy says this all the time...
If you really want to know the truth about something, whether it be politics or social situations, just ask a black person. He says they always know about things that white people are completely clueless to. He's right!

21. since when does Howie
speak for the black community? He called Sharpton divisive? Bush is the owner of divisive. People who thought they hated Sharpton were cheering him the next day. These people are out of touch. Really. And poor Doris. She looked bitter, like she'd just sucked a lemon. The Dems had to be kicking ass if those two looked so sour.

33. I loved Jon Stewart's response to the vitriol directed at Sharpton's
speech. The overreaction spewed by all the major networks, all of whom conspicuously made the same points, would have been laughable were it not for the hateful undertones. Howard Fineman now apparently thinks that he's better suited to speak for blacks. Oh the outrage! Sharpton is striking such a partisan tone! Give me a break. He was doing what he intended to do -- rally the base and respond to *'s questions at the Urban League. How about focusing on the content of a speech for a change?

Fer god sake...how ridiculous. He was speaking to Democrats after all. We can take in information much quicker than the republicans who are used to long pauses, lots of "um" and "uh" and constant repetitions. Bush is turning their brains into mush, making it impossible for them to listen to someone speaking at a normal pace!

doesn't need half the time allotted for his speech for applause. bush sits there and smirks and lets them applaud and applaud so that it uses up more time.

If he were to just GIVE his speech straight, it'd be about 10 minutes long, tops.

Seriously.

It shows current polling and 2000 results for each state when you point the cursor over the individual state.

At present, Nevada, Arizona, West Virginia, Tennessee, New Hampshire and Missouri have moved into the blue column.

6. Well something flashed on my TV
yesterday that amazed me. I live in a red state in the good ole bible belt and the local news conducted a phone poll. I have been contacted by this poll twice in 2 years so I know they actually call people. It showed Bush and Kerry only one point apart. My jaw hit the floor and I turned to the family and shouted can you believe this? One point separation. Amazing.

Could South Carolina (aka the Baptist belt) actually be in play?
Oh be still my heart.

34. Because they have no real record to run on so they use lame,
divisive cultural issues to distract the average voter. The simple fact is most people don't want to look deeper into differences in policy -- that stuff's boring. What they can understand is Democrats = gay marriage + no confederate flag + illegal immigration.

I live in Georgia so I see it first hand. Republican seems to mean heritage in these here parts!

It's all about status quo.
Keep the Wealthy White Man on top and push all the darker skins to the bottom.

The Civil War is still being fought in America. The site of the War has shifted a bit to use the ill informed base of NASCAR tracks,Bubbas, NRA, Christian Right(especially the White Born Agains -the Blacks are just there for window dressing.)

I'd say it's about 90 % racism.

Just like they did when patriots kicked that other 'KING GEORGE' out in the 18th century! John 'The Swamp Fox' Edwards, is going to rally the southern patriots for the NEW regime change in America! It started in Boston and ended in Virginia once before! History repeats in 2004!

Taxation without Representation, "SHALL NOT STAND!"

The Bush regime's 'Intolerable Acts', "SHALL NOT STAND!"

Read my lips, "NO MORE BUSH*T!"

The Pubs thinking are rooted in the past....all they do is look for what John said or did wromg in the Past, never mind what they want to do for the fut6ure that just might be better than they can do.

The Pubs rarely do something nice/positive/benevolent for the future unless they get the whole pie....them being greedy an all.

The South, the poor gullible South is waking up.....and are they pissed. Taken for cannon fodder, easy money/votes, the Pubs brainwashed these poor folk with so much BS its pathetic. Now they are finding out the truth...they see it....they feel it... they know it,,,and now, they gonna shock the shrimp with a crimp...with a pull of the Left Level....for Kerry/Edwards.

40. Post hoc ergo propter hoc
is a logical fallacy assuming causality on the basis of sequence. The cock crowed, the sun rose, therefore the cock crowing caused the sunrise. I really think Edwards and Kerry-- and even more Bush and Cheney et al-- deserve credit for the change in Southern voters, not Bill Maher.

If Maher thinks in such vague terms as "the South" and refers to "it" as stupid, he's guilty of another logical fallacy-- misplaced concreteness.

Bur he was the first for me to hear calling the South, by and large, "stupid"...and he qualied the phrase in such a way as not to appear "Offensive"
