Can we do something about Dr Phil?
I was once a huge fan of Dr Phil...until that show with the war protesters. I doubt if I was the only one who tuned him out after that. I heard he came back with all kinds of explanations and excuses later. So, my guess is that many protested.

I think his ratings have gone way down this past year. I think he is vulnerable.

We have a heads up here. Go to drphil.com NOW and join up.....then when the news officially breaks about Bush being on the show, PROTEST. In the meantime, how about getting a list of his sponsors and their addresses ready, so we are set to go.

We have enormous numbers here, and in those numbers lie power. Look at how much money was raised for Kerry in tiny increments. This is the glory of this election. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

1. I like the way you think!!!
I have advocated boycotts and preasure for sometime now. The Damn Right does it all the time and we must do the same.

3. he is a snake oil salesman period
he's not doing anything new in terms of therapy. He's just a self promoting asshole. Short of a boycott i don't know what you can do.

4. Talk about unpresidential, appearing on a pop psycho show
Let it go. This is the worst campaign idea ever by Rove & Co.

5. We don't have to boycott
we just have to let sponsors know how we feel. I know it won't stop the show, but it may stop some of the blatant ass kissing you know damned well is going to take place in that hour. It costs us nothing, and takes little time. I think it is worth a shot. But then I can't vote, so I am trying to be creative in doing my part.

8. I think he should go on Dr. Phil,
this will not play well with the angry white males who are his base! They will desert him in droves. It makes him look unmanly--especially next to OUR war hero.

I support this decision by Shrub.

9. I'm with you. It's an idiotic idea
having your candidate appear on a TV shrink show? I thought these guys were supposed to be smart.

7. I suggest ignoring him.
It's not as sexy as everything you propose, but really, Dr. Phil is small potatoes. The Republidorks who watch him will swallow anything he says or does (Dr. Phil's diet plan, anyone?), and the skeptics--well, they'll be tuned in elsewhere. Small, ineffectual audience. I wouldn't put my energy there. But that's just me--we all need to ramp up our involvement where we feel most inspired to do so. Good luck!

And too, if his numbers are already tanking, why risk renewing interest in his show with a controversy?

13. I wasn't trying to be sexy
I was trying to do something beyond sitting and bitching. If you think Dr Phil only appeals to republicans you are way off the mark. If Oprah could do it for Arnie, Phil can do a lot for Bush. You assume that only republicans vote mindlessly.

15. Sorry, I've missed all the "sitting and bitching" threads
. . . however, I am delighted by your last sentence. You are right, I do assume that only republicans vote mindlessly, and that is an awfully good point!

16. dr phil
decimated them as only he could. his show, his forum, his rules, and he treated them like shit. And, though he claimed it was a coincidence, the audience was filled with service people and their relatives. It was painful to watch.

12. you can write the local station his show airs on
and tell them that you will not watch their news that day in protest of Dr. Phil having * on. They can pull Nightline off the air out of a hissy fit over names, let's see what they will do when it's known that a large percentage of their viewership is not going to watch their newscast that day. They'll chase the dollars.

14. I tried to read his book, once.
My aunt used to rave about him and sent his book to me. I was very unimpressed with the guy and was unable to finish it. I'm sure the guy is well-meaning, but I see him as dishonest , phony and he didn't really have anything profound to say. Now when I say, 'dishonest', I don't mean maliciously so, just dishonest in the way fundies are dishonest--fooling themselves with a delusion and these lovely stories that don't match up to reality.

19. I am curious about the context of Bush's appearance on Dr. Phil's show
I thought all of his guests were there because they have some serious problem and are seeking help. Will Bush be admitting to the nation that he is in dire need of Dr. Phil's help? Will Bush reveal his private demons? Will he admit that he has failed to take responsibility for his failures, or that he is still drinking, or that he needs Dr. Phil's help to taking off a couple of pounds? Oh, maybe Bush can finally resolve his feelings of failure to live up to poppy Bush's expectations, so he won't have to start any more wars to gain daddy's approval.

I think that it's funny that Karl Rove somehow thinks this will help Bush's image.

I can't bare to watch him period. I have watched Oprah since she first aired and when he was on her show regularly she toned his rhetoric down. I know she can't be to thrilled about this since she seems to questioning Bush alot herself. She did have Clinton on recently and it was a GOOD interview so we got to hand it to her for that, however, Phil, is a oportunistic blowhard who has lead fame go to his ever so increasing bald head.

This bothered me to hear this too and since I stopped watching him shortly after his show started I won't have any problem boycotting. What bothers me more is who will counter this with a KERRY appearance... something tells me Kerry has BETTER things to do than whore for a bullshit talkshow.

I agree.. I don't get the connection, unless he's there to excorcise demons. Hell, at least Oprah started out as a reporter...
