39. Repugs were destroyed |
|
Maher and Moore tagteamed Owen and Dreir, leaving them sputtering nonsense and repeatedly saying they thought * was masterful. Neither would say however if they would have acted the same way despite being asked exactly that about ten times by Maher who got louder and more incredulous at their weak non responses. Maher and Bush totally mocked Bush for his thirty minutes of helpless impotence at the school.
Nader came on to blow shit at both Kerry and Bush and Moore and Maher dropped to their knees and begged him not to run. Great theatre.
Then Kim Campbell, the former Prime Minister of Canada did a masterful job of telling Nader to not be a spoiler but to galvanize voters and then tell them who best to vote for before November 2. Nader barely had time to rationalize anything about his ill advised run. Great stuff.

The only thing that galled me was that it took almost three damn years to have someone on cable express a full measure of scorn and outrage about Bush's non performance on 911. But the Repugs had their face pushed in it tonight and the audience was absolutely egging Maher and Moore on, even booing the raggedy-assed silk purse that Dreier and Owen were trying to make out of the 911 chimp's ear.

I think he wanted to let them get comfortable with repeating seven minutes over and over and then hit them with the twenty minutes he spent screwing the pooch.
Another great spot was when Owen (I think) was trying to make some spin that no one knew exactly what had happened so Bush was waiting for more information. Maher said something like "Then I guess he wasn't needed, huh?" He kept pointing out that Bush was the President,it was his job to do something, find out something and could have excused himself when the nation was under attack but nooooooo. Maher pointed out he was just sitting there listening to kids read, not even reading himself. I have never seen these points hammered home like this before on television. Must see TV. I hope it is available on the web.

Hey you airline travelers the republican party thinks you're all expendable. You guys in high towers-Heads Up.
That part actually hit me in the stomach when Owen said that. I guess sticking up for Bush is more important then letting us serf's die. Finally they showed their cards. Assholes.

I have waited a long time to see that happen, to see them having their inane rationalizations mocked and shredded in front of a hooting audience. Any person with two active brain cells could see that Bush has no cover for his inaction. How the hell he got away with it this long is only due to a completely inert prostrate press corp who censored this video until Moore brought it back. I think thousands more who haven't seen the film will go and see it now.

Every time I see Drier on any of the other shows, he's such an ass, and I never agree with him, but it has to take a lot of guts to go on Mahr's show, and be the only Pub, and get beat up by everybody else. remember Drier from the California recall. He was a creep then, and a creep now. But the guy was taking such an awful beating I was wondering when the ref would jump in and declare it a TKO.

Far too serious. Party loyalty is important, but it is just so fucking obvious that Bush is dangerously incompetent.

99. He did have some balls to go on there |
|

Drier has never met a media opportunity he didn't like.
Until last night.
He is constantly making the TV rounds. Probably thought he was going to drive the stake into Michael Moore once and for all.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.
He had his ass handed to him. Moore did most of the work on this, and the audience (most likely left-leaning political cynics - the crowd that idolizes people like Moore) was very favorable to him. Drier must have been crying when all was said and done. He may or may not have walked off.
In other words, Moore destroyed him and turned him into his personal bitch. Drier didn't do his homework. Maher even tried to pull Moore off, though he himself did go after Drier on a few occasions.
Bill has said he has problems getting conservatives on his show, due to the sometimes hostile environment for righties. It makes "Hardball" look like "Regis and Kelly" to conservatives. Some are brave enough, like Coulter, Issa, and Larry Miller. They have made repeat appearances. Coulter vs. Moore would be one hell of a show.
What's really important is that Drier is a high-up person in the Bush/Cheney campaign. And he couldn't even effectively defend his boss.
Bush: Stick a fork in him.

105. As far as I know Dreier doesn't have any kids... |
|
I live in his district. Everyone you talk to in my area of the district (which is one of the few relatively liberal areas) seems to think it's common knowledge that he's gay.
I recently went to a bizarre meeting with his Democratic opponent who is openly gay, where the the subject was brought up--she even said something along the lines of "the pot calling the kettle black."
I have such mixed feelings about outing--except when it comes to hypocrisy. And Dreier, I think, voted for that anti-gay house bill about the courts.
It's just strange that so many people seem to think it's common knowledge, or have a friend of a friend who has been on camping trips with Dreier and know for sure that he's gay.
I'm not sure someone as public as he is would be able to keep it a secret for so long, but I think that, even with hypocrites like Dreier, there is this reluctance to out someone before they're willing to come out. And, as a former Chicagoan, I remember all the rumors about Gov. Jim Thompson and Mayor Mike Bilandic -- there was always a cab driver who claimed to have dropped them off at a gay bar (almost like an urban legend).
So, maybe Dreier is just this unmarried guy and the rumors are unfair and unfounded.
Sorry to get so off the subject...

|
Maher told the musician guy in the beginning of the show about Tweety's cutting Sharpton's speech off and commenting that Sharpton "began his career as a criminal", then asked him: "Don't you think this was a racist thing to say?"
That's calling Tweety out for what Tweety is: a racist who made a very racist statement.
Good for Maher. He's come a long way this year. About time he took on these creepazoid right wing Tweetyesqe pundits.
Loved the way everyone ganged up on Dreir, who deserved every verbal punch he got. That slimeball had it coming.

102. Maher's.."everyone mistreated Al Sharpton" |
|
was the twisted warp he's always doing. He started with media going crazy, dissing Rev Al --then screwed it around to "everyone". All the L radio ive heard--AAR, Thom Hartman, Trippiani (Mich.TalkRadio) and much reading, Sharpton got emphatic and no uncertain praise. The straight arrow was with hysteria fromthe media mainly CNN-MSNBC..havn't heard network comml news.
Once Maher sat down with the panel his mind was more honest --but HE is a major flipper-flopper..to point he sounds dizzied by it. "why do Dem have to build uptheir optimism..it's childish" ;to me, he is c h i l d i s h most of the time. "Thepresident knows I'm with him" echh--Kerry's 'reporting for duty" with the big eye roll of dismissal.
Even Moore opened with a petty punch at Dem/conv. ""first they said "hope is on the way" then it was "help is on the way..did they ever get there?" he says-- they're not mutually exclusive missions-values. Then Moore & Maher did show more maturity in the panel..& still ironic wit funny.
Even with Drier on mute..I tuned out (it will be in replay plenty in the wks ahead) Drier as Cheney repeats what's been soundly refuted and flattened! On NO wmd found his stand is "but the intell was there" duuuhh

They didn' cover a broad range of issues, instead they really dug in deep on a few - which was excellent.
One of the faults of republicans is their complete inability to acknowledge any mistake, any error, any fault. With Drier, he struggled to explain Bush's behavior on 9/11, Owens struggled to explain Bush's behavior on 9/11. The more reasons they gave, the lamer they made Bush look. It is like Ron Reagan said in his esquire article, they lie and fight against admitting an error against their own interest. If they came out right after 9/11 with one straight forward story about why Bush reacted as he did (even one that admitted some fault) it would be a non issue, or an issue that got no traction.
Yet, they try to tell us Bush WAS acting, and things WERE happening, in the face of that footage. Everyone I talk to, I raise this footage - I think it is the most damning part of F911 cuz it is not edited in anyway. I first talk with people about what they did when they heard about the planes, and we re-live those first moments. And then I talk about Bush sitting there for 7 minutes. People react to it -- on a human basis, it makes no sense that he did nothing, never mind that he is commander in chief. That is what gets people, they as humans reacted and did several things in the first 7 minutes. He did nothing.

98. Does anyone know what he ultimately did say to the class? |
|
Seems to me that since everyone did know it was a national emergency if they knew nothing else, he was going to have to say something presidential and confidence inspiring and make an exit no matter what. It wasn't going to go away if he just sat there. The question, which had not been answered at that time, was the extent of the attack and how much more was to come and that wasn't clear for hours. So what did he say that he couldn't have said as soon as he was told?

That about summed it up for me.
bush* is not needed. Kerry is needed. End of game...
I thought Nader was going to cry when Bill and Moore got on their knees and begged him not to run. And the Canadian PM added the smartest thing, about how run and then still be a player. Hope Nader wakes up...
Drier is a wimpy little shit who couldn't take the heat. When Moore said he wasn't some WImpy Dem and would take the bullshit, I was like "HELL YEAH!"
