Media Matters ....
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 12:06 AM by myday38
PBS's Tucker Carlson: A "disabled liberal ... lesbian" could have gotten a PBS show instead of him
------------------------------------------
CNN'S anchor Kagan to retired Marine Dem Convention speaker: "Why are you not a Republican?"
-----------------------------------------
CNN's Miles O'Brien wants to see if Howard Dean "melts down or something"
-------------------------------------------
CNN amnesia: Forgot TNR report on Bush plans when Al Qaeda suspect arrested during Dem Convention

ALL Above from: http://mediamatters.org/items/200407280004

I would also like PBS to explain why Tucker Carlson was given an new show "Unfiltered". I want to know WHERE IS OUR DEMOCRATS "unfiltered" Show. This REPUKES running the Media
is getting waaaaaayyyyy over the top now!

WRITE, CALL, MAIL, e or snail.....JUST start letting them know
we are tired of being their punching bag.

I was told that the Repugs in Washington probably started telling the news networks that security was becoming an increasing issue after the prison crisis. That the media was told that they (media) were causing increasing hostility that made the US a target for terrorism. The increased pressure from the REPUKES
started this "safe" Democrat-Liberal bashing to be so high on the
medias agenda. WELL... I think if we had had an administration
that had not caused all these 'issues' in the first place, there
would be no need to worry about this sort of thing right now.

The Media has dropped the ball...there is plenty of news that needs to be aired about the shrub and his weeds as well as other stories
in the world. Write them and tell them to stop moderating the news and start delivering it. (As well as all the other great things I know you all will say!) And tell them to not wait till the RNC has their convention to start "playing nice". We want fair play!

2. We are doing our best as individuals to pressure the media...
into being fair, but I wish we had some money and/or power on our side. I hope MoveOn or Michael Moore or some force or other might be able to call out the media before it destroys Kerry's candidacy. I'm concerned, for example, that when Kerry/Edwards started campaigning yesterday, Candy Crowley was traveling with them, and reporting our campaign to CNN viewers, most of whom do not realize she, and CNN, have an agenda just as Fox does.

3. I wrote to WNET/13 locally
After I heard about Carlson getting the show and told them that I wouldn't be renewing my membership. Maybe they'll make up for all of us who don't renew with some right-wing memberships? HA! That'll be the day.

4. I am like both of you...I am seriously concerned with the situation...
I found this article and it reminded me about Al Gore trying to get
a progressive cable station.... I think will write to their website and ask if progress is being made....We really really need something
like this..

U.S. TV Lacks Liberal Slant
by Vinay Menon

Television has always played a curious role in American politics.

If anybody understands this amorphous nexus, it's former U.S. vice president Al Gore, who was a reporter before he entered public office and has been parodied so many times by Saturday Night Live he should demand royalties.

One of the abiding myths south of the border is that liberals control the media. Of course, the rubes who prevaricate such folly are the conservatives who control the media.

But, whatever. You say "tomato," I say, "Bill O'Reilly should be turned into cattle feed."

During the surreal run-up to war and later, as "Operation Iraqi Freedom" shocked and awed us on live television, it was astonishing to watch the American networks transmogrify into hollow echo chambers and jingoistic organs of the U.S. military.

How and why this happened should be of great concern to all. Especially when you consider a recent poll that found one third of the American public now believes weapons of mass destruction were uncovered in Iraq. Another 22 per cent believe Iraq used chemical or biological weapons against coalition forces.

This would be mildly amusing if it wasn't so damn frightening.

So when reports surfaced that Gore is hoping to create a new cable channel devoted to "progressive" viewpoints, nobody should have been surprised.

As Time magazine reported, Gore has met with Hollywood power brokers and potential financial backers.

The plan, it seems, is to launch a station that could compete with Rupert Murdoch's conservative Fox News Channel, the cable station that beat CNN in the Iraq ratings game by waving flags and excoriating all things anti-war.

The magazine also reported that Gore has been acting as a conduit between high-profile liberal commentators and Sheldon and Anita Drobny, the Chicago venture capitalists who announced plans to fund a progressive radio network that would act as a tonic to the conservative elixirs served up by Rush Limbaugh and other idiots.

The irony, of course, is that prior to the Iraq war, the prospect for a new liberal cable station would have been about as promising as George W. Bush joining Greenpeace.

But since the war ended, evidence continues to mount that U.S. intelligence was torqued to justify the invasion. More importantly, no weapons of mass destruction have been found, something critics, including U.N. weapons inspectors, predicted long before the first bombs exploded in Baghdad.

(Help me out: If Iraq posed no threat, what exactly was being pre-empted
etc.,etc.,

5. I had to bitch out my local NPR station
Thursday, after listening to all points considered. The interviewer (not sure of his name) was talking to a member of the Kerry team about the 9 minute video that preceded his speech, and when the campaign guy mentioned Vietnam, the interviewer mentioned that there wss some controversy about Kerry "recreating" some scenes in Vietnam. Which has, of course, been THOROUGHLY discredited, after being brought up by Drudge. The interviewer didn't mention that it had been discredited, however, and the guy he interviewed didn't know what the hell he was talking about.

I was LIVID. I give money to NPR every pledge drive, because they are supposed to be an objective source, with well-prepared, well-reserached, and did I mention UNBIASED reporting. What, I can't even listen to NPR, now? Un-fucking-believable. And sad.
