Remember Cheney's involvement with Iran-Contra?
History on the Ballot (on page 2)

<snip>
Cheney to the Rescue

One of the key congressional Republicans fighting this rear-guard action was Rep. Dick Cheney of Wyoming, who became the ranking House Republican on the Iran-contra investigation. Cheney already enjoyed a favorable reputation in Washington as a steady conservative hand.

Cheney smartly exploited his relationship with Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind., who was chairman of the Iran-contra panel. Hamilton cared deeply about his reputation for bipartisanship and the Republicans quickly exploited this fact.

A senior committee source said one of Cheney’s top priorities was to block Democrats from deposing Vice President Bush about his Iran-contra knowledge. Cheney “kept trying to intimidate Hamilton,” the source said. “He kept saying if we go down that road, we won’t have bipartisanship.”

So, Hamilton gave Bush a pass. The limited investigation also gave little attention to other sensitive areas, such as contra-drug trafficking and the public diplomacy operation. They were pared down or tossed out altogether.

Sometimes history just comes right back and bites you on the ass when you haven't learned from it.

1. And BCCI and IranContra characters are directly linked to 9-11 and Iraq.
Yes. Let's ALL remember IranContra and BCCI...after all, 9-11, and the Iraq War, and this White House's foreign policy are all rooted in those scandals.

This is why Bush and Cheney did not want to face Kerry. Kerry is the Senator who launched these investigations and exposed their corruption. He SAW the documents that were ruled classified secrets and fought to make them public but was left out on a limb by too many Dems who sided with the WH.

3. Yes indeed, correct as always.
Kerry is bad news for the BFEE and they know it. Something tells me that, if we regain the House, the first order of business is a complete airing of recent American history. A curious pattern will emerge: all the players that brought us the October Surprise, Arms for Hostages/Iran-Contra, RW Death Squads in South America, BCCI....they were reconstituted in this administration.

I hope Kerry and the Democrats go for the jugular this time....we cannot allow these criminals another pass to work their evil another decade from now. Time to excise this malignancy once and for all.

9. YES! You are right. Go for the jugular!
We need Kerry and his administration to say to Bush, "sure, we'll let you retire quietly to Crawford..." Then after January 2005 he should say, "oh, we said you could retire to Crawford, but we didn't say how long. Now it's time to go to the Hague. Put on this orange jumpsuit."

Kerry MUST open ALL the books, especially the records of Reagan and Bush Sr.

4. You're right on target there.
I had forgotten Lee Hamilton was so heavily involved too. Maybe your take on Kerry seeing those documents is a part of why the Berger smear has now been put on the back burner...Cheney to DeLay, "Stall the investigation and get this off the front pages."

2. Interesting- I had forgotten about Cheney and the Iran Contra whitewash
I have seen Lee Hamilton on T.V. several times lately and kept thinking that I should know him from something important in the past-now I remember. Cheney is such a unrelenting corrupt SOB.

5. Me too.
Cheney has to be the slimiest, slickest, most evil bastard there is. I've worked in places with people like him. Pure evil that get a real hard on playing the game.

8. now that's a thread....and a movie
after going through it, I envisioned an Indy film where a room full of people put the pieces of this puzzle together while explaining everything to the one person in the room who has no idea about any of it.

If MM could make $100 million+ on F911, I can't imagine what this movie could make.

10. Cheney really symbolizes all that is wrong with modern Republicanism.
He is the anti-Kennedy:
"Ask not what you can do for your country....ask what your country can do for you."

This guy and his sycophantic Party has no moral compass. Their vision of government is to maximize profits for their legion of corporate criminal benefactors.

His 25 year Iraqi relationship in government(war) and out of government (profits) is the biggest criminal/ethical flip-flop of our time.
