Kerry's Speech Was Flawless
Technically perfect. Rhetorically perfect. Perfectly delivered.

So what's missing? Something's off, but I can't put my finger on it. We should be walking on air today.

1. What's missing is, it's 94 days till the election.
Much as I feel like walking on air, there is still a lot of work to do, and the more it looks like Kerry will win, the more I want to work to elect a Congress that will help him to get something done, and not obstruct him.

5. There's alot of work to do...
Kerry made a great speech, but I think it paled to Obama's. Nonetheless, Kerry said what he needed to say and said it forcefully; the undecideds were the ones he was going for and I think he got them..

2. I am..

I have been in a cloud ever since. I have been more motivated by a Presidential candidate than I have ever been. I am proud to be a Democrat, but more than that, to be an American. John Kerry gave me hope. That's all I wanted.

3. The media who doesn't get that they are here to serve the public
on the PUBLIC airwaves instead cowtow to the fear of their corporate masters. They deliberately heaped scorn upon his speech to throw us on the defense... unexpected for some who are not yet accustomed to their grating defeatism aimed directly at us.

11. I guess I did want to see people turn around.
it seemed like a if there were ever to be a turning point, this should've been it. But I switch to Washington Journal this morning and there was absolutely no praise, no nothing - like it never happened. I still can't believe it.

4. Compared to aWol barely able to read from a teleprompter. As I've posted
for 3 months now, why doesn't the intelligent media WHORES notice this? Why doesn't Kerry come out in a news conference and state, "I will no longer even use notes for my speeches. I want the American people to know my ideas are my ideas, my thoughts my thoughts." This is a 100% sure win for Kerry, even if he makes a few mistakes in speeches because Kerry's mistakes will become WHORE news and eventually the WHORE reoporters will have to address aWol reading his speeches. Everyone knows aWol will be unable to memorize his speeches because of alcolhol/drug brain damage.

Why aren't I a campaign strategist?

10. one thing that bothers me, is how few people
probably watched the entire thing. People just don't seem to pay as much attention as they should to what is going on. Kerry hit it out of the park--but a lot of people I talk to were not even aware that he accepted the nomination last night.

We are in sad times.

14. You're correct so change tact to one liners as 'Voodoo Science President'
Sometimes I think some of our Dem. strategist are GOP/NSA undercover agents. We doesn Kerry pick up the words on aWol on science? Kerry, in his speech, mentioned a President using science but why doesn't he turn up the heat and call Bush, the 'Voodoo Medicine President afraid of scientific research' or 'Witch Doctor President afraid of science' or compare aWol to something in the past when religious leaders wouldn't allow broken bones to be reset because it interferred with the natural world... Why let aWol come out with all his speeches like he has high ground when in fact he's trying to bury science?

6. um, a mainstream press that agrees
if Bush could deliver anything near that speech, he would be hailed as emperor of thw world by the mainstream press ... and that's what this should be about, it's very simple -- a war hero with 20-plus years of experience in the Senate vs. an AWOL rich kid who fell into the presidency after a few years of running Texas into the ground ... I really have a hard time sometimes understanding just what is so hard about this for the American people

that being said, Kerry is certainly not Clinton, and that may be the problem ... Clinton just had that special something that made you feel he was talking directly to you no matter what he was saying, and Kerry doesn't come off quite like that ... unfortunately, the mainstream media has turned our presidential elections into a contest of "Who would you rather have a beer with?" ... ridiculous and sad, but true ... I'll never have a beer with either Kerry or Bush, I'm sure, but I know that I would live a much happier life knowing that Kerry and Edwards are looking out for me than I am with the corrupt fools who are in office now

Some pundits thought so too last night. It seems today that they changed their minds. Am I suprised? Hell no.

Liberal media my ass...

8. Aren't you? I am
Walking on air, that is. The speech was incredible, I thought flawless, as you say. But what has me walking on air is the reaction I saw afterwards on shows like "Scarborough Country".
It was the conversation after the speech that has me walking on air.

Of course, if you were watching FOX after the speech, you would have been staring at, what, 45 minutes of Kerry and Teresa watching fireworks as the Boston Pops played on? Absolutely no commentary whatsoever (unlike the rest of the time, when Fox sees fit to have two or three right-wing morons spouting garbage at every turn). Suddenly Fox was speechless.

Every 10 minutes or so you'd hear Greta Van Sustern's voice say, "For those of you just joining us, we are watching the celebration..."

While on MSNBC and CNN people were praising the speech right and left alike.

And did you notice how grouchy the right-wingers were today? If there's something off, I'm missing it.

12. that's darn good to hear. maybe I do need the "spin"?
I saw it on C-span. no commentary. my wife and I were exhuberant, but I guess because nobody else was around & I didn't get to talk about it with anyone today. also, it doesn't seem like there was sufficient gushing here on DU.

I think a lot of us here are just all worn out, but in a peaceful, happy way. What a long and happy week.

They just put an equal number of phone callers on to give it the appearance of non-partisanship. Remember that newspaper that asked for Bush supporters to write because they had no letters to print? Turn off the t.v., go out and talk to Dems to get them involved. You'll hear a different tune from the people and the people are where it's happening:

(from the Kerry blog)
Most of our tired staff (myself included) fell asleep on the bus. Well when we arrived in Scranton this is what we woke up to. The streets packed with thousands of people. Many had been waiting outside for a few hours, but that didn’t quell their enthusiasm or excitement as John Kerry, John Edwards, Teresa Heinz Kerry, Elizabeth Edwards, Ed Rendell and Ben Affleck addressed the crowd.

We are about to roll into Harrisburg for our next rally. I just heard there were 17,000 people at our event in Scranton. Simply amazing.

John Kerry just took to the stage in Harrisburg. On a Friday night at 9:00 pm more than 20,000 people came out to greet us. Wow!

Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 12:53 AM by JohnKleeb
they are only voting against Bush. Kerry has for me for a good while made me support him against Bush not just as a guy against Bush but as a guy of his own. People love and admire this guy, and he will win Virginia I believe. Oh and sandy, you know if Kerry is coming to Northern Va any time soon?

19. I don't
I found this article on the two week bus tour, the campaign doesn't release info in advance, I don't know why. It doesn't look like Virginia is being included right now, but they are known to change plans rather quickly sometimes. We can just keep our fingers crossed!
