3. Here's her Thoughts on Affirmative Action for Women.
It's Affirmative: Women Don't Need Favoritism
by Susan Sheybani (00S)

Affirmative action was created to remedy past effects of discrimination. In law, affirmative action prohibits discrimination based on gender or race in employment, education and government contracting. Concerning gender, there is debate on whether an equality of opportunity has been reached. Today women are the majority population on most university and college campuses. This trend alludes to a controversial question about gender-based affirmative action in higher education. Is gender-based affirmative action still needed in university admissions? The hypothesis explored in this paper suggests that women no longer need affirmative action to be admitted into universities. Attempting to prove this theory require the use of statistical data. The sample consisted of two states: California and Washington. These states have, in recent years, revoked the use of affirmative action in higher education. The admission rates of females at universities in California and Washington states, two years prior and two years after the revoking of affirmative action were calculated. The same rates were then calculated for men and findings were noted. It was found that in almost every case, women were accepted at a similar or higher percentage rate than men.
