Hey Kerry just called Ben Affleck a wuss? I love it but. . .
. . .how do you think that will play in the media. Kerry introduced Afflect who then opened an umbrella to protect himself from the rain and then Kerry says "hey he turned wuss on me." The crowd laughed. How will this play? Any ideas? I did not bother me and it most likely did not bother other DUers but how will it play?

11. repubs may make something of it
but they make something of everything. I think it was just a statement made in passing.

16. if you don't give them something to complain about
they'll look for it. If they don't find it, they'll make something up.

This is small stuff, a joke. If they want to blow it out of proportion, that's their problem.

9. Not worrying but keeping it real. . .
. . .the other night we laughing when Kerry's daughter was telling the story about him saving her hamster because we know the Republicans have probably found a "witness" to refute that claim. I don't think the Republicans and their allies in the press will stop at anything to smear Kerry/Edwards.

Sounds like a damn good idea to me. Hope Kerry/Edwards don't get sick and not be able to speak. :-(

31. Not what happened
Kerry was joking that Affleck was standing out in the rain with only a t-shirt on. Then Affleck sheepishly got out the umbrella grinning the whole time. Karry turned around and said, " Oh, he's turned into a wuss I see" Kerry continued to speak and Affleck lowered the umbrella and put it away.

5. he had called him "macho" for standing in a t-shirt earlier
and said he was a wuss when he put up an umbrella for the rain. so, in context, there's nothing to it whatsoever except a cute joke.

12. Yep....atleast he didn't say "Girlie Man"....
But it was said in context to an earlier comment about Ben being a tough guy when he stood in the rain w/ a T-shirt...

I don't think its a big deal, but yeah, the media whores might play that one sound byte out of context....to that I say SHOVE IT!

...Kerry and Affleck have a pretty good relationship, one that allows for that kind of horse-play.

Anybody in their right mind, NeoCons excluded of course, will understand that it was a joke.

You might not like him, fair enough, but there are a lot of women (myself included) who like him and young people who like him. 22 Million Unregistered Women Voters in the 2000 elections - The candidate who wins their vote - wins the election...

27. You're very wrong about that.
Besides the name recognition, he proved himself to be very intelligent and astute regarding political issues during this campaign. If you saw his interview on MSNBC with Matthews (Gergen, Finneman, Mitchell and Scarborough were the panel if I recall) and they were absolutely BLOWN AWAY!!! Aflack gave himself true credibility with his appearances.

30. You must have missed his appearance on Hardball with Chris Matthews
He wowed even the right-wing pundits. He was articulate, well-informed and extremely personable. He teased Chris Matthews about going after his job, and I think Tweety was actually more than a little worried.

Affleck appeals to young voters because of his celebrity, but he is much more than a pretty face.

Yeah, I told my husband that if I was ever widowed and since I'm 5 years older than Ben Affleck, that maybe, like John Kerry, Ben Affleck would marry me, a wealthy widow with children on his way to be Senator....My husband already teases me and knows that Ben Affleck is my fantasy replacement of my husband... :hi:

33. Wrong. That guy is very quickly developing a following within the...
...Democratic Party, not only among the faithful, but also among the hardened consultants who appear to be impressed with his ability to respond to tough questions.

Don't be too surprised if you see him running for political office sometime during the next five to ten years.

Hey, I like Ben as much as the next gal, but could really give a crap about his character, his beliefs, or which candidate he's supporting.

But that's just me.

29. Lavalady - I know you like someone to be more than just a pretty face!
If Ben was running for office, atleast he has better character, beliefs etc than the current occupant of the Oval Office...

If Ben Affleck was supporting Bu$h, I wouldn't be digging him...I find his "sexiness" not on his looks, but based on his intellect, his character and his beliefs...its what I consider to be the whole package...

I know from your postings that those things must matter, right?

32. Of course they matter, my friend. Of course... but....
... I'm reluctant to let Hollywood make the difference.

My impression has nothing to do with the right-wing radio demonization of Hollywood. I just... I dunno. I dig Affleck, but he's irrelevant to me, politically.

The fact that he's on our side encourages me, because he'll add visibility to the campaign, but I just am loathe to throw our eggs into that basket. Hollywood isn't real... it's tinsel.

And, again, I hate to adopt a RW meme, but outside of Michael Moore, I don't put much creedence into Hollywood's efforts, that's all.

34. You might be more inclined to change your mind once he becomes...
...Senator Affleck. Based on what I've seen and heard, that is where he'll be in the next five to ten years.

One more point...NOBODY is politically irrelevant. Nobody. Every vote counts, every volunteer helps, and every mouth opening in defense of Democratic candidates is a very good thing.

36. I just keep thinking of Ah-nuld.
Hated him as a celebrity. Hate him as a Governor even more.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I would prefer it if college-educated policy students enter elected government before celebrities do. They seem to get a leg-up, and I would prefer to buck the trend, regardless of what side they're on.

I respect accomplishments more than ideology... so I'm going to hold back my support of celebs on the campaign trail for those reasons. I need a little more out of them than just "Yeh! I agree!" before I can start voting, you know?

24. I was at the rally and you had to see the context of the statement
It was pouring rain the entire rally and Ben Affleck was onstage in nothing more than a t-shirt, no raincoat, no umbrella. Kerry teased him about trying to appear macho and then when he turned around a couple of minutes later, Ben was huddled under an umbrella with Kate Edwards.

The crowd was howling, as was Ben Affleck. They are obviously very friendly and comfortable teasing one another.
