I think after GW loses, the GOP might be a little sour on the Bushes.

And works for Focus on the Family. He loved Owens -- until it was discovered he was cheating on his wife. Supposedly that's why Owens didn't run for Senate.

But based on his performance on Politically Incorrect last night, he is very unimpressive. Bland white guy, very conservative. But I don't know much about him beyond that.

Think of how many will come out as the current admin enters the private sector.

I think GW's greed caused a future blight on the family name that will be a sore subject at their Thanksgiving table for generations to come.

27. no if W is defeated just like Poppy the GOP won't be wanting Jeb
Rudy will probably run--but his record would probably stand in the way of his getting the nomination. Frist will run, Ridge might, Arnold would if he could. Pataki even might try it. I really don't think they have many strong candidates in the wings. McCain would be formidible, but he probably wouldn't challenge Kerry.

29. I'm betting on Owens
they don't really have anyone else.

the county will be too sick of the Bushes, so no to Jeb
Rudy is too liberal to win the nomination
ditto for Pataki, plus he's unpopular in NY now and probably will go down in 2006
Frist is just boring, and most conservatives are pissed at the job he's doing as majority leader
A Mormon could never win the nomination, so scratch Romney

One other name I've heard thrown around is Santorum. That would virtually guarantee a Kerry landslide.

32. They really don't have anybody...
and that's why this asshole got the job.

You could dig up a few moderate Senators and Governors, but they're not very well known. Elizabeth Dole would be a thought, too, if they had the guts to put up a woman.

They've done a good job of purging themselves of sensible people, though, and don't really have much left. I find that troubling, because if we must be stuck with a two party system, neither of them should be stuck hidebound with the wingnuts.

Truth be told, I'd rather a fair election between two good people than between one good guy and an asshole.

THIS is why I love the Democratic party.

Look how many great candidates we could have:

Kerry
Edwards
Dean
Clark
Biden
Clinton
Kucinich
Obama

... and about a dozen others!

Things are looking pretty good right now, but we're going to have to work like hell and hope we don't have to worry about being spoiled for choice until 2012.

Bottom line, unless they amend the Constitution, they got NOBODY. And even if they tried to do that, I seriously doubt they'd have the votes to pass an amendment, and by then Arnold will have shown himself to be a hopeless LOOZAH!

53. The obvious, John McCain
If Shrub goes down in flames, as we hope, I see a real Civil War going on inside the GOP with McCain rallying the old style conservatives and moderates as well as whatever Neocons decide to jump ship while the jumping is good. The Fundies will have their favorites but I think that the GOP is going to be serious about winning and McCain is the only guy who could do it for them. Unless of course they change the constitution to make room for the Gropenator.
