Although, to be fair, I've posted at least one RW talking point in hopes of a rebuttal.

My best friend thoroughly believes that Kerry is a "tax and spend liberal" and has no way of paying for all the things he's suggesting. Of course, it may tell you a little about the guy to know that he's voting Kerry ANYWAY...

Rebuttals are one of the things that DU is very, very good at. Everything I ever needed to know, I learned at Democratic Underground.

I'm new, haven't posted much, and in another post have already said something that unfortunately sounded freeperish, because I worded it wrong. Not that I would expect anyone to remember me and keep track of what I say, but on the off off off chance that I would be lumped in with the people the original post was talking about, I just want to apologise for my pessimism.

I posted a really gloomy, depressy, angry rant the afternoon the convention started. I was beaten down by all the reports that there was to be no "Bush-bashing" which said to me they were going to muzzle all the passionate voices, and be all sweetness and light.

I was wrong, and oh boy, am I glad. Al Gore was subdued, but the spark was there. Jimmy Carter's speech laid all my fears to rest. In the next 4 days, voice after voice spoke up and said exactly what I wanted to hear.

I've been voting Democratic since 1976, and yet I'd never watched a convention before. This time, I Tivo'd and watched every single second of it, and dubbed off 3 videotapes worth to keep. I even watched the Roll Call on Wednesday night! I never, ever would have imagined myself watching such a wonky thing, but it was great, if only to hear things like Alice Germond's line "Florida, you have 201 votes, and we're going to count every one of them." Priceless!

Thanks to the convention, I'm fired up now in a way that I never thought possible. People really are waking up!

2. They shut off regisration for a few days (don't know if it's still off) to keep out troublesome elements.
