KERRY and EDWARDS coming to Grand Canyon and Flagstaff!!!
Next weekend, August 7th and 8th, they are making the rounds in Grand Canyon country - the less hot, less hellish, more Democratic, more beautiful part of Arizona!

There is lots of spin in the media about them not taking Arizona too seriously as a swing state, and although Kerry's numbers have diminished here (thank you PHX), I think it is wise to not give up on it.

This is a rally I have a chance of attending. Clinton came to Seattle during his campaigns, but one would have to be psychotic to fight Seattle traffic to attend any crowded event there. So in this smaller, saner place, I might just actually see the next president for once.

I invite the DU denizens from hell (PHX) to come on up to the plateau for some real campaigning, next weekend.

4. How did you find this out?
I called Kerry's AZ HQ yesterday morning and was told they weren't scheduled to come to AZ. I even specifically mentioned Flagstaff because it's not as hot as the Valley. When did things change?

8. update
No schedule, just the blurb in his column. Privately, I know Muller is a Dem, although he is good at being fair in the paper. That is my only source, and the website for the paper does not have his column up yet.

No worries. If he is correct, I will post here and in the state forum as soon as I know.

13. I do know this
As recently as 2 days ago, the latest was a GC visit only in possibility, and Flag wasn't on the agenda. So the revision is very very new. Probably overnight.

Campaigns do that.

But no way will I not keep everyone apprised one way or the other.

7. More democrats are moving to Arizona..
than republicans. Gov Napolitano works with the Kerry campaing, and no way is she letting bush take AZ. Besides, Prez Clinton took AZ twice.

About Kerry's low jump in the polls. My neighbor (San Francisco native), said that his family in SF said the Dems need to turn the question around. If Kerry did so bad in his speech, why didn't bush's polls jump to at least 10, 15 points? Bush running on his solid (hee) record should have jumped way ahead of Kerry. Repigs don't have an answer.

10. Clinton only took it once, in '96
But you are right about more Dems here. I arrived one year ago today from a blue state that hadn't gone red since Reagan in '84.

9. Please post specifics in
our state forum when they become available, if you would, ZombyWoof.

Maybe we could get something going in the way of carpools etc to get folks up there from "the valley?"

It could serve two purposes: the obvious - a great turnout for Kerry-Edwards and, maybe a little softening of Zomby rhetoric against denizens of metro Phoenix. Some of us are DUers down here - 'ya know?

Maricopa County brought it home for Janet Napolitano and thwarted the takeover of our statehouse by that left-over Contract On America goon Matt Salmon. I don't believe you lived in AZ at that time, so you didn't realize enough people down here can and have gotten it right that it has been demonstrated there is strong reason to go all out for a Kerry win in Maricopa County.

12. no softening
You all live in Republican (and climatic) hell, and you have my sympathies up to a point, but when you choose to live in hell, you must take your lumps. I have lived in predominantly hellish fundie pits (Va Beach VA), so I have earned the right to be a combative asshole about it.

As I said above in a reply to someone else, I will post specifics if this story is true.

Actually, I think it is a miracle Napolitano made her way in, and that AZ even went with Clinton in '96. MAYBE if Kerry takes it this year, AND the Dems take over the lege, I will soften. Maybe.

17. we can't have you going all mushy on us now can we?
if half of maricopa goes for Kerry, he'll win the state. I am out in the "hellish" climate working for that very thing.

the reason the valley is so right wing is the 3 churches on every block. :scared:

18. sounds just like Va Beach
Except for the desert and cactus thing, that is. And the ocean. And trees.

But yeah, you can't take a piss in the south without hitting a church.

As for you working in hell, you have my best wishes, along with the usual mocking and ridicule. ;-) I can do both.

"Do I contradict myself? Very well, I contradict myself. I am large. I contain multitudes."

Drives the polarized 'thinkers' NUTS. :P

15. My parents live in Kingman
I'll have to let them know about this. I could hop on a Southwest flight, visit them and my son who lives in Vegas and see Kerry/Edwards! I have a free ticket. Can't think of a better way to spend a weekend.
