CA recall: Is AS a plant ?
could AS actually be democrat masking as a republican the way JL masks being a republican by being a democrat ?

i have NOTHING against JL, in fact i wish a more liberal democrat could find the courage and voice to defend Israel as JL does, but in a way that connects to the peace groups in Israel, but that's another story

as JL shows, though, there is a market in American politics for politicians who can switch hit in the name of some higher legitimacy like God or the American people or in his case, both plus his admirable committement to Israel, which is only marred by his disregard for the Palestinians, but that's another issue

i dislike AS enormously and hope Cruz gets out his can of whoop ass, like yesterday dude

i was also shocked to read that AS is now saying tax increases are necessary, if i understand correctly

that would definitely seem to indicate that the CA electorate are in a more reformist mood, which will benefit democrats, if they, meaning the CA dems can get their stories straight

i still think with all those camelot connections, he's a plant

peace

1. JL is a Democrat.
He's good on the environment, he's good on worker's rights, he's good on abortion. He's 20% conservative. 20%! That's nothing.

2. AS has real political ambitions
both here and in Austria. While I have seen people who are lousy candidates with no future be talked or tricked into being a "stalking horse" (that's what it's called), AS has no real motive to do such a thing.

Stalking Horses are used to divert attention, split votes and all sorts of fun things.

3. no doubt
but his peculiar brand of conservatism only seems comparable to Lieberman's

if that makes sense, no doubt they differ on a lot of social/moral issues

what is a stalking horse called when it actually gets elected ?

i agree AS is not that, but he does sense that there is a market out there for moderate republicans that many democrats also buy into

too bad he's such a buffon on the stump !

AS really represents another low in the state of out political culture and democracy

i really don't see how he'll pull it off

oddly enough a moderate republican victory in CA, i.e. AS wins, could be beneficial to the Dems, IF it means a split in the GOP between its hard rightwing and moderate factions, represented by Schultz, and AS' strange economic pragmatism, which is definitely NOT in the current republican venacular
