Paul Krugman Exposes CNN for Who They Are!
Krugman shows the CNN bias we've detected lately.

1. Yup!
They were shameless in their attempts to paint GOP talking points into every part of the convention. Thing is, any knuckledragger will still say CNN is "liberally biased". Go figure.:eyes:

12. About CNN
If that sounds like a script written by the Republicans, it is. As the movie "Outfoxed" makes clear, Fox News is for all practical purposes a G.O.P. propaganda agency. A now-famous poll showed that Fox viewers were more likely than those who get their news elsewhere to believe that evidence of Saddam-Qaeda links has been found, that W.M.D. had been located and that most of the world supported the Iraq war.

CNN used to be different, but Campaign Desk, which is run by The Columbia Journalism Review, concluded after reviewing convention coverage that CNN "has stooped to slavish imitation of Fox's most dubious ploys and policies." Seconds after John Kerry's speech, CNN gave Ed Gillespie, the Republican Party's chairman, the opportunity to bash the candidate. Will Terry McAuliffe be given the same opportunity right after President Bush speaks?

Commentators worked hard to spin scenes that didn't fit the script. Some simply saw what they wanted to see. On Fox, Michael Barone asserted that conventioneers cheered when Mr. Kerry criticized President Bush but were silent when he called for military strength. Check out the video clips at Media Matters; there was tumultuous cheering when Mr. Kerry talked about a strong America.

Another technique, pervasive on both Fox and CNN, was to echo Republican claims of an "extreme makeover" - the assertion that what viewers were seeing wasn't the true face of the party. (Apparently all those admirals, generals and decorated veterans were ringers.)

Paul Krugman is a national treasure--you could use bugmenot.com to read the whole thing.

No wonder Kerry didn't get much of a bounce, but let's see how they treat the Republicans.

17. Great op-ed. Wrote the writer the following:
Thank you for your insightful column, "Reading the Script." After watching some coverage of the Democratic National Convention on CNN as well as MSNBC, I decided to switch to watching it on
C-SPAN for its "gavel-to-gavel" and commentary-free coverage for the very reasons you cited in your Op-Ed piece.

Part of the problem I had with the coverage on CNN and MSNBC was that the "talking heads" only wanted to hear themselves talk. I wanted to hear the speeches.

One thing I've observed is that Chris Matthews of MSNBC's Hardball seems to be having a problem staying "objective" in his coverage. During the Democratic Convention, he went out of his way to find Bush supporters in the crowd outside Faneuil Hall and seemed to egg on the Democratic supporters. Furthermore, even leading up to the convention, he's been playing "softball" with the Republicans and "hardball" with the Democrats, which has caused me to wonder if the GOP will be given the same "consideration" during their convention.

36. So is ABC ...
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 03:36 PM by lanparty

And their blatant bias was never shown brighter when the network flashed scenes of Al-Arabya and Al-Jazeera coverage during Kerry's speach. And I'm still AMAZED that more people aren't talking about this obvious sublimable slander.

Let's not forget that ABC/Disney is the same company that tried to kill F9/11 and has serious ties to the Saudi Royals.

On Edit:

When searching for this on the internet, I found this bit on the Free Republic.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1181690/posts

It just shows you what length the mentally ill will go to in order to make this action seem like a bias ON BEHALF of John Kerry.

I hope this gets more attention. CNN was the WORST coverage in the bunch. I let them know that they lost a viewer in me.

I attached the article to an email to CNN saying:

In case you wondered why I watched the convention on C-Span after the first night, Mr. Krugman said it better than I can. I'm still too angry to be lucid.

You might also remember that Gore won. And when you add in the Nader votes, there are more people in this country who are disgusted with your coverage than thought it fair. You are no longer journalists, you are hacks.

You can do what you want to split the GOP audience with Fox but the majority of us will no longer watch.

25. Truth: Krugman's specialty
It's refreshing to hear a brilliant economist speak out for policies that don't benefit corporations and stockholders alone. Krugman is one who believes in the economic power of the middle class to create long-term wealth and healthy markets.

I saw him a couple days ago on CNBC. He and Larry Kudlow got into a powerful discussion about Bush's economic policies. Krugman was ahead on every point, even when they agreed. Kudlow would come up with a conservative truism, followed by Krugman's, "yes, but here are the facts..."

He deserves a good, long listen. I hope John Kerry finds Krugman a nice warm spot in his administration.

They have a good discussion aboutu :

"According to the Times, this will culminate at the GOP convention where Kerry will be portrayed as ?an object of humor and calculated derision.?

Also with links to archives detailing what the RNC did to Gore with the media's help.

32. ANDERSON COOPER IS GAY!!
I'm really shocked that Anderson Cooper would be so REPUBLICAN biased (during his coverage of the dem. convention)-- when he is a gay man. This is not a rumor, i know this FOR SURE. Maybe his $$$ background trumps this (he IS Gloria Vanderbilts son). Or maybe he's a gay republican (oxymoron). Or maybe CNN just directed him to stir things up...

I get to to be the first to welcome you to DU. Glad you're here. Yippee Yahhoo. Not only a newbie but one with dirt. My motto: forget about being Earnest lets be Frank. So you have spilled the beans on Anderson Cooper. I can't believe he is Vanderbilt's son. OH MY GAWD!!!! That is real news and a closeted gay to boot. Who would have known there is so much great dirt on Mr SqueakyClean? I always refer to him as one of the bottom feeders, now that takes on a whole new eerie meaning. Wow wow wow wow. What a slime pit for swallowing all those Girlie men and Pretty Boy comments, he may have pots of money but certainly hasn't any spine and he disgraces all the really brave people who have stood up proud to fight for recognition and respect.

34. CNN is why I am on the DU, now.
I used to hit CNN website several times a day for news updates. Recently, I wanted coverage of the pro-choice march on Washington. Many of my friends and family participated, so I wanted to see what the media was saying. When I went to CNN, they had little coverage and low crowd estimates, etc. That is when I started hitting the DU LBN section on a daily basis, since lots of people here were talking about the march.

After CNN's treatment of Sharpton, I am well and truly done with them. That is the last time I try to watch that channel. With the internet, c-span, etc, there are so many options. The only problem with the cable channels is that most Americans think they are legit. But I figured it out and I am not all that special, hopefully others are catching on, too.

I actually emailed him a couple months back and asked him to please write a column about CNN's right-bias. It was after Wolf interviewed John O'Neill and never once mentioned that he did not serve with Kerry, that he was a Republican, that he had ties to Nixon and Bush, etc.
