2. Something can always be salvaged. |

Might get pennies on the dollar, but almost any wreck can be salvaged unless its just too deep - or there are extenuating circumstances.
It is presumptious to think we ever "had " Iraq in the first place. I would be wondering if Communist China could have been salvaged or if Vietnam could have been salvaged.
As the resistance gains stregnth and momentum i believe we will be more aware that we are in a militarily un winnable situation. Maybe if we can declare peace with honor and bug out a new monument on the national mall will salvage American pride - say 10 years from now.

3. Yes it can be salvaged |

A new broom sweeps clean.
A Kerry presidency would have a greater chance (not certainty, but greater chance) of getting international help.
Bush is a symbol. Changing symbols will cause the opposition there to have to retool, a little bit.
A whole bunch of little things like that can add up to a tipping point to a better day in Iraq.

4. No, not FUBAR. It can be salvaged. But, not as long as we're there. |

The Iraqis will salvage their own country once they throw us out. It will be messy, just like it was in this country after we threw the Brits out. Our salvaging of our country had several rebellions and a civil war.

The longer we buy into this White Mans Burden crap that only the u.s. or others doing our bidding can "save" IraqNam, the more people will die on both sides.
It is totally fucked up and will be for some time. After we leave, and after they settle their own scores among themselves, an ayatollah or dictator will rise to power and restore peace with an iron hand.

8. As FUBARed as Vietnam. |

The question is, how many years is it going to take before people finally figure it out. We've already been there one and a half.

11. Can be salvaged, but not by us |

The Iraqi people MIGHT be able to salvage it. Then again they might not. Iranians were united in their hatred of the Shah, but most didn't want the theocracy they ended up with.

Stop parroting a " we broke we fix it" line and come to your senses, people. What is going down there will happen whether we leave today or in two years. The only difference is, less of our kids will die.
But if you are among those that feel we should stay out of some kind of misplaced honor, weigh that honor against someone's kids life.
And tell me all about how Iraq will be better in six months. WE have options. Get out now on our terms, or get driven out later on someone elses.

15. I hate to say this, but... |

As long as the US is involved with Iraq, it IS FUBAR. Because of the actions of this administration, the US has lost all moral authority in the country.
American troops are hated, the puppet leaders will not be completely trusted and anarchy will flourish.
The only way to salvage anything is to remove GWB and his band of neocon cronies and rebuild shattered alliances and convince the allies to help in securing the peace and rebuilding the infrastructure.
