CBS Radio actually said this...

Last night, driving home at 12:30 AM PST, I heard a report
concerning the recent "terror alerts". The
reporter(it may have been someone they were interviewing, but
I think it was a reporter) said that it was good to have this
alert because it got the public "psychologically prepared
for an attack because an attack in the next 3 months before
the election was VERY LIKELY". I almost drove off the
road. Since when did an attack before the election become
"VERY LIKELY"? And is that really the purpose of the
alerts-do "psychologically prepare" us? Is this
really CBS's opinion or is this the actual RNC plan?

5. I've heard the "very likely" thing mentioned several times.

It's because of the Madrid bombing. Some consider it very likely that AQ will try to do the same thing here. But of course here it would have the opposite effect of ensuring a Bush win. And they're missing hte fine point of part of why the old admin. in Spain lost was that they tried to lie about WHO had bombed Madrid, and they were caught in their lie. Unfortunately, as we know, half of our country doesn't seem to care if Bush and his team lie.
