A basic understanding about hard core conservatives
I first read this in Franken's book. Conservatives view their country like a child views his mommy, as perfect, and beautiful, and all-powerful. When someone tells them that daddy put his penis in mommy to make you, they panic. NO NO ITS IMPOSSIBLE!!

They never actually grow out of that stage of their lives, is my opinion. Robert Bly also wrote about this in his novel The Sibling Society.

9. As I'm thinking about the comment regarding kid's horrified about
a penis inside dearly beloved Mom, I wonder if that explains the disgust about sexuality within conservative circles?

14. Probably, it also explains the un-ending cries of "liberal media"
equates it to screaming at the person who broke the news to them. NO...NO. I HATE YOU....ITS NOT TRUE...DADDY WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO MOMMY.

5. I need to re-read Lying Liars
It's a great book, but I read it too fast and now I can't recall much. Unfortunately the one part of that book I wish I could scoop out of my memory with a spoon is the O'Reilly cunnilingus novel info. :puke:

The Mommy perspective on love of country is a perfect analogy. He really hit the nail on the head with that one.

6. As perfect, and beautiful, and all-powerful.
As perfect as is humanly possible... and we all know how possible that is.......

13. Something that was missing due to brackets!!
I forgot to change the brackets to parentheses cuz... they hide what is inside....

8. I think it is no coincidence that education corelates to liberalism
Moral development occurs with maturation and accelerates with social interaction. Education (including self-education) encourages the examination of data, including beliefs. Lack of education and interaction tends to "freeze" people at an immature moral level, which translates to black-and-white views and the inability to take conditional points of view. Does that sound like any conservative you know?

10. Very well said. Very illumninating. Perhaps the core
reason the RW rants against Liberalism is its correlation to education which if its good and not theologically slanted enables people to break away from the perfect mother and see her realistically.

16. It explains alot.....
Thats is why so many ultra conservatives have such an overly simplistic view of everything. You notice this sort treats those that disagree with them on most counts not merely as those with differing points of view, they often see them in harsh and bitter terms.Liberals are not merely wrong, they are traitors they think.I remember at the start of the Iraq war someone wrote Fox News(aka the ministry of truth) saying everyone that disagreed with the war in the slightest should be sent there and used as a human shield! To some extent they don't want to really have a debate on anything they just want everyone to shut up and play along. In there minds there should be no other side,no discussion,no debate.News is not there to report events regardless of who happens to look good or bad but enforce a certain point of view no matter how off kilter,in short thats why so many conservative news sources sound like propaganda because thats there idea of what news should be...trash the enemy, push the party line and fudge the facts to fit that party line.
