some factions of the resistance there protect journalists (some troublemakers try to, wait for it, give them trouble, but the most elder and respected Sheikhs of the resistance there try to protect them), because they want the truth to be told. Mafkarat al-Islam & al-Jazeera always have seem to have a reporter inside when something happens, and some "Western" outlets also do.

There were a couple excellent "inside story" sort of investigative pieces recently put out, one by ATO's Nir Rosen and the other by Patrick Graham in Harper's June issue.
