Cuban Missile Crisis: An example of USA restrain & sensitivity. |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 11:45 AM by The Backlash Cometh
I welcome information from those in the know. I distinctly remember that John F. Kennedy was commended for showing restrain when our pilot was shot over Cuba. It warded off a show-down that would have certainly resulted in everyone's worst fears.
It seems that this country has acquired amnesia and has bought into the policy that every attack should be met with brute force. At least, that is what Cheney is trying to sell when he mocks John Kerry for looking for a more diplomatic way out.
So, are there any other examples that would show that Cheney's way is not the only way out?

1. The Cuban Missile Crisis: |

It's important to remember that Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson, and Nixon all would have invaded Cuba had they been president at that time. Thus, the world would have suffered from a WMD war which would have, at very least, destroyed Cuba, 12 south-eastern US cities. It is easy to imagine the war spreading to Europe and the USSR.
Had bush/cheney been in office, the USSR would not have needed to bring WMDs into Cuba. They would have simply lied and insisted that Cuba had WMDs.
