More Wackos West of Waco
Aiyiyi. Why do they all have to come here?

Let's see now how many "Good Christian Texas Patriots" might now argue for a little separation of church and state?

Hmm. It's okay for MEN to have multiple wives (many of whom are alleged to be way, way underage), but it is a FELONY to perform a marriage ceremony for two consenting gay adults? Governor Goodhair, where are you when we need you??

ELDORADO, Texas – The narrow dirt road cuts away from a padlocked metal gate with a "No Trespassing" sign and an infrared security camera. The road drapes like a ribbon over rolling green hills and seems to go nowhere.

(snip)

This group of polygamists – self-described Mormon fundamentalists apparently seeking an escape from an unholy mess in their longtime homes on the Utah-Arizona border – has raised a big-time stir in tiny Eldorado, where fire-and-brimstone religion may be welcome but multiple wives tend to rankle.

(snip)

To some in Eldorado, it's because of worries that the group's reclusive and powerful spiritual leader, Warren Jeffs, will move in permanently with a few thousand followers and take over the local government.

1. I just don't understand why Texas is a freak magnet!
Our weirdest neighbors were a Polish Connecticut couple (no, not that Connecticut couple) who were Square Dance Fanatics... costumes and all!

2. Hey, that's not weird, it's harmless
It's a far cry from sucking 12 year olds into a polygamous marriage with an old man.

3. Check out _Under the Banner of Heaven_
Scary book about whack job Mormon Fundamentalists, or the FLDS as they're called. All religions could be looked at with disparagement; it depends on your point of view. But the FLDS do indeed participate in what amounts to pedophilia, molestation, and slavery. And, the dudes at the top (they are ALL dudes) make a pretty penny while they're at it.

I just read the chapter detailing the beginnings of the Mormon church. I'm still speechless.

We moved from Texas to Oregon about a month ago, so I know what you're talking about. Seems every weird story about some nut doing something crazy came out of Texas. :P

It was odd seing Warren Jeffs' name in this article after what I just read about him!!!

5. I love Oregon
Beautiful place. I'm starting to look beyond these beloved Texas borders.

It's getting just too nutty, even for us oldies who are very good at living and letting live. Breaks my heart.

6. Eldorado, Texas is just up the road from where I live.
There are already big problems between the Yahoos and the ranchers here. Their septic system is woefully inadequate and it has been contaminating neighboring ranches. Also they are putting up high anti-deer fences, interupting their natural migrations around thier territory. These are also affecting the deer population on neighboring ranches and hunting season is a big source of income for the ranchers.

Things are looking bad here and it is for all intents and purposes a powder keg.

10. So how can we
Run them out? I sure don't want them any more than where they came from. Any chance Rick Perry could introduce a bill outlawing polygamy? Surely pedophilia can't sit well with even the nuttiest right-wingers.

8. Here is you a song
Got this this morning. You might know the tune. :7

The Crawford Hillbillies

Come and listen to my story 'bout a boy named Bush.
His IQ was zero, and his head was up his tush.
He drank like a fish while he was drivin' all about.
But that didn't matter 'cuz his daddy bailed him out.

DUI, that is. Criminal record. Cover-up.

Well, the first thing you know, little Georgie goes to Yale.
He can't spell his name but they never let him fail.
He spends all his time hangin' out with student folk.
And that's when he learns how to snort a line of coke.

Blow, that is. White gold. Nose candy.

The next thing you know there's a war in Vietnam.
Kin folks say, "George, stay at home with Mom."
Let the common people get maimed and scarred.
We'll buy you a spot in the Texas Air Guard.

Cushy, that is. Country clubs. Nose candy.

Twenty years later George gets a little bored.
He trades in the booze, says that Jesus is his Lord.
He said, "Now the White House is the place I wanna be."
So he called his daddy's friends and they called the GOP.

Gun owners, that is. Falwell. Jesse Helms.

Come November 7, the election ran late.
Kin folks said "Jeb, give the boy your state!
"Don't let those colored folks get into the polls."
So they put up barricades so they couldn't punch their holes.

Chads, that is. Duval County. Miami-Dade.

Before the votes were counted, five Supremes stepped in.
Told all the voters "Hey, we want George to win."
"Stop counting votes!" was their solemn invocation.
And that's how George finally got his coronation.

Rigged, that is. Illegitimate. No moral authority.

Y'all go vote now. Ya hear?
