God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news |
|
If only the right could empathize, could walk a mile in another man's shoes. Their false piety, their greed blinds them to other's pain.
Everlast - What It's Like Lyrics
We've all seen a man at the liquor store beggin' for your change The hair on his face is dirty, dread-locked, and full of mange He asks a man for what he could spare, with shame in his eyes "Get a job you fucking slob," is all he replies God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes 'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues
Then you really might know what it's like... Then you really might know what it's like... Then you really might know what it's like... Then you really might know what it's like...
Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom that said he was in love He said, "Don't worry about a thing, baby doll I'm the man you've been dreaming of." But 3 months later he say he won't date her or return her calls And she swear, "God damn, if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls." And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walking through the door They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner and they call her a whore God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes 'cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose
Chorus
I've seen a rich man beg I've seen a good man sin I've seen a tough man cry I've seen a loser win And a sad man grin I heard an honest man lie I've seen the good side of bad And the downside of up And everything between I licked the silver spoon Drank from the golden cup And smoked the finest green I stroked the fattest dimes at least a couple of times before I broke their heart You know where it ends, yo, it usually depends on where you start
I knew this kid named Max He used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs He liked to hang out late he liked to get shit-faced and keep the pace with thugs Until late one night there was a big gun fight and Max lost his head He pulled out his chrome .45, talked some shit, and wound up dead Now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of this pain You know it crumbles that way at least that's what they say when you play the game God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news 'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose
Then you really might know what it's like... Then you really might know what it's like... Then you really might know what it's like...to have to lose

I find a lot of right and libertarian programs basically ignore any mention of the human costs of their actions. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

2. I remember that song from like what . . . |
|
four or five years ago? One of my favorite songs of all time. It really told it like it was. I recorded it on a CD with some other songs and sent it to my friend's husband who lives in Ohio. They are both fanatical Republicans. He more than she. She is a southern Christian (when it is convenient for her), but she always votes Republican because she is antiabortion. I told her so am I; however, I feel it's the woman's choice, not our governments, and not the fetuses.
He said it was a neofascist propaganda song. I told him it was a song about life and what some people have to go through. He was able to do a lot of things without a college education, and he feels if he can do it, everyone else should be able to.
I was talking to my friend about my husband's 401K and told her when we get to retirement (hopefully at 55), the 401K should take care of us until we get SS (if it is still there). She said that she and her husband were not going to take any SS. So I asked her what they had in a 401K or CD or IRA? She told me nothing, they hadn't started planning yet and they are both 40. I just started laughing.
He has her so brainwashed it is pitiful.
Anyway, gonna have to find my Everlast cd. Thanks for the memories.

There was a thread a few days ago for 'songs that make you cry' but I couldn't remember who the artist was. That's the song, though - ain't it the truth.
