"Bring those Americans here to fight hand to hand. They are cowards!" |
|
Published on Saturday, August 21, 2004 by Reuters Sadr's Men Hold Iraq Shrine in Defiance of Govt by Michael Georgy NAJAF, Iraq - Fighters loyal to rebel cleric Moqtada al-Sadr were firmly in control of Najaf's Imam Ali mosque on Saturday, defying efforts by Iraq's U.S.-backed government to end a radical Shi'ite rebellion.
"Bring those Americans here to fight hand to hand," said one militant, biting his finger for emphasis. "They are cowards. They stay thousands of feet away in their airplanes. They are scared, they know we will slaughter them."

This is why we have lost the support of the world. People know our soldiers are fighting with vastly superior weapons like tanks and aircraft against a rag tag group of insurgents with only guns and grenades. It is not a level playing field and it does make our soldiers look less than heroic (understatement).
It's not our soldiers' fault that they are put in this position. It is the fault of our government and its politicians who voted for this travesty.
Bring our troops home NOW!

never said that a level playing field was advantageous. Perhaps Sadr needs to study their line of thinking and save himself and his militia for other battles.

... on the list of talking points I like to drag out when I encounter the "Bush is tough on terrorism" wingnuts: :grr:
1. Bin Laden attacked us on our own soil, killing 3,000 people, and Bush failed to bring him to justice.
2. Bin Laden warned his followers that America was out to take over Arab states. Bush made the prediction come true.
3. Bin Laden wanted to splinter the West, pitting old allies against each other. Bush went right along with the plan.
4. Bin Laden boasted he would "cleanse the Islamic holy land of infidels." Bush complied by ordering US forces out of Saudi Arabia and urging Americans to flee the Saudi peninsula.
5. Bin Landen boasted he could bring down a superpower just like Russia in Afghanistan. Bush has us bogged down in Iraq, unable to get control despite all our military strength.
George W. Bush is the best thing that ever happened to Osama bin Laden. There's no question bin Laden benefits if Bush is re-elected: four more years of America playing into the terrorists' hands at every turn.
