When are DUer's going to stop watching FOX and CNN? |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 12:26 PM by LeftHander
Television is Entertainment.....nothing more.
When people who support Bush talk to me I ask them..."Where do you get your news?"
They more than likely say FOX or CNN.
I shake my head and tell them that news on television cannot be trusted to present information without bias or any relevency. Television is an entertainment media. Period.
Apart from the instant gratification of major event coverage the result is still the same. You watch. You see the ads. You buy the product. More extreme programming is created to capture more viewers to sell more ads....yada, yada, yada....That is the cycle.
Extremism in television journalism sell ads because people continue to be attracted to it like a moth to patio light.
OJ Simpson's slow speed chase was as important to CNN as 911 was in terms of ratings. In fact Gulf War I was the only reason cable news survived at all.
So as you watch FOX and CNN to "keep and eye" on the other side, remember that you are fostering a continual degradation of jornalism.
So I say....wean yourself off the glass teat and start accepting that television is not to be rewarded with your viewership for creating the crap it does.
Turn it off. Read internet news sources. Read the newspaper. Buy a NOAA weather radio. Bookmark NOAA websites for radar pictures.
But you can't stop watching can you.

who will "police" them? I don't watch Fox, but I watch CNN (not exclusively). Yes, a huge portion is biased, but when it is truly out of hand I fire off an email, a letter, or a phone call.
I feel like I cannot ignore where some of the undecided voters get thier news.

their strategies and talking points, before you can defeat them. There are undecided voters out there who need direction, and you can't let the talking points from Faux News go unchallenged. If every DUer watched a little Fox News every week and then researched their talking points, there is no telling how many innocent Faux victims we could convert.

but dang, I want news and I'm really not that interested in the Olympics. So, I watch CNN. Heck, I get most of my real news from DU anyway.

Stop watching? No. We need to know what they're saying so we can craft OUR messages.
Stop whining about 'em? Definitely. They suck, but we should channeling our frustration toward educating the public on how much they suck.
Just ordered OUTFOXED, btw.
