Ethics ? - My Daughter Invited to Jenna's for Convention Kickoff Party |
|
My Deaniac, Democracy for America, Kerry Volunteer NYU Senior that is protesting Sunday got herself invited to Jenna Shrub's big pre-convention party.
The kid said no way she'd set foot in enemy territory but her mom and I think she should go. I see a great opportunity to see the dark side in action and perhaps make a new contact or two.
Her other reason for not going is that her apartment will be full of out of town friends in for the Sunday Protests.
Input or ideas appreciated. If others agree with me I'd love some arguments in favor of going.
by the way. I think I'm doing a great job at staying on the DU wagon. This is my first post in months.

absolutely!
Wonder what kind of great, upstanding, old-fashioned republi-CON family values will be on display.

Have her pump Jenna for the truth about W and the rest... either that, or sneak in a camera and give Jenna a bottle of Absolut to chug-a-lug

Amazing that your Deaniac daughter got herself invited to the kick-off party!
I can see why she wouldn't want to go. If she did..it would be purely work(reconnaissance)..I would think.
It would sure make good copy, though.

I can't say how she got invited because a freeper spy could easily put 2 and 2 together and cause trouble.
Think she'd have to burn her clothes afterwards?

I'm sure the greater public would enjoy an inside view of those ***holes. She should take a camera any subtle or hidden recording equipment she's aloud to inside the place.
That's my nefarious slant on the thing.

17. Go! Go! Great opportunity. |
|
It is a fine chance to see how the other half lives! See how the other half operates. See how the other half thinks.
Maybe find similarities rather than differences. Maybe meet people from whom you may gain something. (I get tired of the notion that only Repubs are allowed to make money) If we think we are fringe we stay the fringe.
When we realise that we'll be able to get more done if we talk the same language, well...we'll get more done. :silly:
All the better to infiltrate, m'dear.

18. It might actually be fun. |
|
Knowing how Jenna and her dad are such big-drinking party-animals it might actually be a fun event.
The biggest thing might be to see what kind of friends Jenna parties with.
Here's what I think: I bet there will be a lot of gays there. Bet on it.

Just to say she did. It will make for a fun story. I wouldn't be interested in catching Jenna getting smashed so much as catching her spilling a bleeding anti-war, pro-choice, feminist, heart or something.

On the one hand, I fully support staying above the fray and keeping strong principles. On the other, I really want to know what happens at this party. And pictures would be oh-so-interesting - but to be honest, anyone who really makes a difference in the campaign or administration is going to be at the other parties. So she's likely to be stuck with a bunch of drunk, uninformed, smug, silver spoon, college age kids - and I wouldn't want to condemn her to that.

24. I think it would be fun to go! |

Ask her if she'd like to challenge herself--to meet new people, infiltrate enemy camp, learn something, and more than likely have a lot of fun. It would suck to leave your friends, but they'd probably enjoy it vicariously, too.
I certainly understand her moral concerns. I'd do it just to have a story to embellish. I mean, er...tell.
Glad you fell off! :toast:

Unless you're really hooked on control issues.
Remember being her age, and having your parents tell you what to do all the time?
It's HER decision.
It's HER life.

What a chance to see at least some of the inside of the system. And who knows who she might meet.
Chances like that don't come up very often, and she shouldn't miss the opportunity.
And as others have said, good chance to do some spying as well.
If I were invited, I'd go in a heartbeat.

30. tell her to go, and then report back |
|
tell her to go, she doesn't have to talk about politics or change minds or anything. but tell her to mostly pay attention to what the people are saying and to report back on how things are there.
do they see things different then we do? what issues do they see as important.
also , tell her to ask some kids whether they ever thought of signing up for the military and other things.
