Alice Cooper makes Politically Charged Statement |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 11:28 AM by Must_B_Free
that Rock and Rollers should never make Politically Charged Statements because "we are morons".
Genius. Only the Neocons could publish such an oxymoron.
Another phony commits Hari Kari, joining the list with Ted Nugent and Gene Simmons, two people who will never see a dime of my money. And their records are going to my trash fire, not ebay...

Arnold. I'd say that Ventura's Indepedence Party in Minnesota leans right but has some left qualities to it.

So you don't like his political views. I'll bet you've never owned or even listened to any of his music. I assure you, he's not a "no talent". He's been consistently making music since 1967 and tours annually to usually sold out shows. Bet you can't name five bands currently with that staying power. Better yet, name any current band that will be around in 30 years.
Although I don't agree with him, I'm not going to stop listening to him or going to his shows. His music as of late has provided great, thoughtful commentary on political and current events. Just give a listen to Brutal Planet or DragonTown CDs and you'll see what I mean.
You sound like some Repuke who's never seen F911 that is passing judgement. It's a shame you have to stoop to that level.

Must B is a rocker...He knows his Cooper - Better than most, likely - Trust me...
And I'm pretty sure Auntie Alice has gone through some fairly "unconsistient" periods...
First time I heard Alice was on Frank Zappa's "Bizzare" compilation from like 69..."Refrigerator Heaven" if I'm not mistaken...Same album with Wildman Fischers "It's The Blimp"

First, I was responding to the post by Demnan, not Must B. And secondly, judging from the content of your post (#11) and the original post, I don't think I have any problem edumacatin' the uninformed on Alice and his music.
I know my Cooper - Trust me...
PS.. was that compilation Bizarre or Straight?

but arrogant. Just because HE happened to waste away his time by sleeping all day and partying all night, well, that must be representative of ANYONE in the music entertainment industry, right?
I'm curious as to what documentation he has of Bruce Springsteen sleeping all day?

Alice does though, address Columbine in "Wicked Young Man" on Brutal Planet. Believe me, the song hardly glorifies the subject.

Alice's music changed my life at the tender age of 10. I've been a fan ever since and that was 1971.
So, we disagree with what he said. Of course we do. And he included my idol, one Mr. Springsteen, in his remarks. But, hey, this is America and for now at least, we all have the right to think and speak as we see fit.
Will I be boycotting Alice? No way. His last album rocked. And my guess would be that the folks he slammed are probably far less upset than many DU posters are.
Alice's satirical stand in the '70s was, by its very nature, political. He's gone to the right now, but he's stored up enough points with me that he's going to have to do much worse than this to get my hackles up. Now, if he puts out a Christian "rock" album or starts writing Toby Keith-like lyrics, then we'll have something to discuss. 'Til then, give the man with a woman's name a break.

When Alice Cooper said he thought rock stars who throw concerts to influence politics were treasonous in a recent interview, he didn't mean treason against the United States. Cooper has issued a statement clarifying his recent comments. Cooper said he had clearly said in the interview rock stars doing concerts for presidential candidates were guilty of "treason against rock and roll." He said he didn't mean treason against the president, the government or the U.S. He said people shouldn't vote for a candidate just because a rock star says so, "and that's true whether it's Bruce Springsteen or Alice Cooper."
Cooper added that rock and roll is rebellious and that spirit doesn't mix well with political fund-raisers and electoral campaigning. He said that's all he meant -- nothing more and nothing less.

31. That's how I always understood his remarks |
|
It was clear to me that he was talking about being treasonous toward rock and not toward the US Gov't. What I didn't get about his comments was his assertion that rock 'n' roll should be apolitical. He said that we he was a kid and his parents would start talking politics, he'd go up to his room and put on the Rolling Stones. Well, I certainly hope he wasn't listening to "Satisfaction" or "Street Fighting Man" or "Gimme Shelter." I just don't see how he could think that rock 'n' roll shouldn't be political. Great rock, by its very nature, is political. Some of Alice's best work was political in nature. So, his comments were more confusing than infuriating.
