I don't hear any one speaking out about this. It is unbelievable that my country could do this, and no one would say "Stop, wait...think what we are doing."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Najaf
Najaf (äÌÝ in the Arabic language) is a city in Iraq, about 160 km south of Baghdad, located at 31.99°N 44.33°E. Its estimated population in 2003 was 585,600 people. It is the capital of An Najaf province. It is one of the holiest cities of Shi'a Islam and the epicenter of Shi'a political power in Iraq.

The city was reputedly founded in 791 (178 A.H.) by the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid. It became famous as the site of the tomb of Ali ibn Abi Talib, founder of Shi'a Islam and first Imam; however, some believe he is buried at Mazar-e Sharif in Afghanistan. The city is now a great center of pilgrimage from throughout the Islamic world. Only Mecca and Medina receive more Muslim pilgrims.

1.  "Stop, wait...think what we are doing."
Stopping and waiting and thinking what you are doing.... is not on the table. Doesn't that just disturb you to no end? It does me. Geez.... what would America's military indu$trial complex do without an "enemy".

3. The Bush Administration's Holy War
They are doing this for Jesus.

Pat Robertson-Approved death and dismemberment, because the Sixth. Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Commandments don't apply to "Modern" Christians like * and Falwell and Asscroft.

5. You know that is really scary,
the fact they THINK they are doing it for Jesus. My question is, who would Jesus bomb? I think we all know the answer to that!

13. We need to send every publicly
declared supporter of * - who also claims to be a Christian - pictures of the deaths their man is causing.

On a Covenant transport truck today, I saw the Pro-Life slogan:

"It's not a choice. It's a child."

Where are the bumper stickers saying:

"It's not a casualty. It's a dead or wounded human being."

??????????????????????????????

4. There's no time to stop and think when you are on a Crusade
We must take the fight to the dirty terrorists' neighborhood so that they don't bring the war to our pristine shores./

They actually believe this crap.

6. We are too busy fighting Vietnam again, and bashing 527's.
We don't have time to even mention Iraq anymore. I wish the parties, both of them, would quit acting as those the voters are fools.

7. the saddest part is that it is not even a campaign issue
we slaughter people by the tens of thousands--on lies--it is the biggest elephant in the living room being denied and we hear nothing of it from either campaign. We only hear that we freed the Iraqi people from the Bush camp and a bunch of other propagandist nonsense. Nothing from the other camp? I am getting sick and tired of it. Issues? This is the biggest issue on the table and most people I know think so also. Yet, little coming from anyone. Yes Kerry called for the resignation of Rumsfeld over the prison abuses--no support anywhere from any other Democrat? I am really sick and tired of it.I feel like I am having the wool pulled over my eyes. How can anyone say they will vote informed when this issue is not even being brought to the fore for the disgrace it is to our country?

SNIP...."US aircraft have attacked parts of the Iraqi city of Falluja, killing at least four people and wounding 12 others.

A doctor at Falluja general hospital, Ahmad Ali, said early on Wednesday the toll from the attacks on Falluja could rise.

By the afternoon, Falluja residents reported that 15 civilian homes had been destroyed in the eastern section of the city as a result of US tank fire.

The attacks in war-ravaged city 65km west of Baghdad sent large plumes of smoke high into the air, witnesses said...."

15. The one re-occuring desire
I have held since long before "shock and awe", was to somehow get a message to the Iraqi people that I was so very sorry for what my government was about to do, and now has done to their country.

In one small way I was able to do that via the Iraq Photo Project

The photos are taken of groups of people holding signs of apology. In my community, our sign was written by a local resturant owner in Arabic. The photos are then sent to Arabic media outlets and posted on the website. Our photo was also printed in our local newspaper.

My heart breaks everytime I hear of the deaths and maiming of innocent Iraqi men, women, children and babies.

Please, someone, make it stop!

17. "Iraqi Holy City Left Broken by Urban Warfare" WP headline just now.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A37040-2004Aug26.html
SNIP...."Pinpoint fire and tight restrictions on munitions assure that the gold-domed Imam Ali shrine remained all but unscathed. But the core of the city around it, a destination of longing for millions of Shiite Muslims, is so mauled that American commanders debate which famously ruined wartime cityscape Najaf now resembles most.

"It's like Stalingrad," a senior 5th Cavalry officer said.

"Sarajevo," Rainey maintained.

Beirut,"a Marine commander said."
