A bit of Air America to Philly!
Hope this aint a dupe. FROM ESCHATON:

A Bit of Air America in Philly

Only a bit of the programming, on a wee station, but it's a start.

Starting Monday, WHAT-AM (1340) will add Al Franken (noon to 3 p.m.) and Randi Rhodes (3 to 7 p.m.).

The move trims the final hour from Mary Mason’s morning show; she will air from 6 to 9 a.m. Thera Martin-Connelly moves from afternoons to late mornings (9 a.m. to noon). Syndicated host Bev Smith remains at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Reggie Bryant moves from middays to the 10 p.m.-to-1 a.m. shift.

Earlier this month, nighttime sports-talk personality Johnny Sample was let go. At the time, station manager Kernie Anderson said the move was to accommodate a time change in Smith’s show.

The 1,000-watt WHAT bills itself as the voice of the African American community. Anderson said the notion that Franken and Rhodes’ focuses are "non-black is not significant to me. ... We’re committed to the African American community ... and there’s no abandonment of our mission. My challenge is to lead the station in a direction to make it a more successful station and offer more compelling programming."

1. This looks to be AAR's new ploy
Originally, they were against cherry picking of their shows, preferring to buy time on stations. Now, they are becoming more successful by letting companies such as Clear Channel pick and choose.

So Philly's on board. Cool.

3. wish they could've gotten a better signal
but you take what you can get. maybe if AAR can boost their ratings a bit they'll apply for a signal increase.

6. DANG! Lancaster is outside coverage area! Grrrrr!
And ultra-conservative Lancaster County really needs AAR! I'm still going to drag my radio all over my house and try to pull in the signal!

8. I just saw an item about Air America having started in SAN DIEGO!
They still can't seem to find their way to L.A., of course. But it's something, at least. The story mentioned the "rightist bastion" of San Diego, and even quoted Roger Hedgecock (wrong-wing radio knuckle-dragger who was once the city's mayor, and, I guess, couldn't find decent work afterwards) as saying he was urging his listeners to listen to Air America - so they could learn what the liberals are thinking - and feeling. My reaction: HEY, Roger, THANKS FOR THE PLUG!!! When they hear our side, they actually get to hear things that have been deliberately kept from them, or misrepresented. I'm betting we get a few converts that way.
