I was worried about a Draft |
|
Watching the current protest, I am no longer worried.
It will not happen.

1. There were bigger protests against the US invasion of Iraq |
|
They had no effect on US policy either.

3. What do the protests have to do with a draft? |
|
There were just as many if not more people protesting before the war and they still went ahead with that.

I believe a draft is going to happen. The organizational infrastructure is in the works now. Its just a matter of time. Protests did not end the draft duirng the Vietnam War, did they /

7. There is no need for a draft |
|
it is more likely the military will be downsized in a few years. Troops from all over the world are being brought home.

8. We will see where this war business goes first. |
|
I don't know what is going to happen next. If we get drawn into a US versus Islam war over oil, I think a draft is likely.

9. I Wish You Were Right, Sir, But I Don't Think You Are |

If Boosh is re-elected, an ongoing war in the middle-east is a virtual certainty, and a draft will be needed to provide the required manpower. The drumbeats of war with Iran, although faint, are already being heard. I think the neo-con vision is for more of a limited engagement against Iran, similar to Serbia/Kosovo, in order to knock the mullahs off balance thereby allowing the democratic leaning in Iran to gain the upper hand. Unfortunately, like Iraq, the plan will go terribly wrong, with the democratic leaning aligning themselves with the mullahs against a more hated enemy, the United States.
I don't think that the draft will last long, because we will be out of money. Our military, with it's high cost weapons systems, will not be able to provide the quantity of armaments necessary to carry on the petro-jihad envisioned by the neo-cons when it explodes in their face. Look at the condition of the military after a limited engagement in Iraq.

10. Do you REALLY believe that the troops are being "brought home"?.... |
|
This is just a temporary stop before the next invasion.
