Contrast: Photo of Cheney Rally at Ellis Island this morning

Supports gather at Ellis Island, N.Y., to listen to Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) speak at a rally to kick off the Republican National Convention, Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004. The convention officialy begins Monday at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Amazing, isn't it? WHAT IF THEY THREW A CONVENTION, AND NOBODY CAME? :-)

3. cheney is as popular as Scrooge
They probably paid those people, or they were already there to visit the island anyway. Nobody would bother to actually go to see the jerk.

5. Well, in fairness to the ralliers
you couldn't exactly walk, bicycle, or even swim over to get there.

How *did* they get people there, I wonder? Send out a call for extras in the Republican trade papers? Did they have special little ferry boats to take them over and back?

7. There is a public ferry from the New Jersey side
Ellis Island now houses a museum, reachable by ferry from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey and from the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City. Located close to the Statue of Liberty on neighboring Liberty Island, Ellis Island is managed by the National Park Service and is jointly part of both the states of New Jersey and New York.

8. This s***bag has some nerve.
Standing in front of a skyline where two great towers came down, killing 2,800 people, on his and dumbya's watch.

While dumbya sat in a classroom, clueless.

And dumbya had put him in charge of terrorism months before.

Nice job, you chickenhawk, cowardly s***bag.

You should have seen the security around MSG - 2 rows of cops in assault garb, special tank proof fencing on the entire block - and the a8holes aren't even there yet!

19. Wanna bet the networks show the skyline behind Cheney,
and not the miniscule crowd? Plus, they'll give him equal coverage to the massive march. They'll show a tight shot of the march so you cannot tell how immense the crowd was and mention it in passing.

Just another day at the Ministry of Truth!

25. That's exactly what the networks showed this morning.
That f@cker Cheney, with the skyline behind him, pointed back and said "The world has changed since the horrible day the skyline changed," or something to that effect.

:grr:

That's why I was so surprised to find this photo, the only one of the "crowd" that accompanied the Yahoo! news story. When he was on TV this morning, there were NO shots of the crowd, just of Cheney and the skyline!!
