AAR is "a loser format."
At least, according to a guy I knew from my commercial radio days who called me on the air last night as I hosted my college radio show.

"Liberal talk," he sneered. "What a loser format!"

To which I replied: "When Air America started on March 31st, they had six affiliates. Now they have 23. That's an almost 400% increase in just five months. Kindly explain to me how that makes Air America a loser format?"

My old colleague muttered something about ratings points and said he had to get off the phone.

Un-fucking-real....

1. They're in such denial. It must be depressing to be a Republican.
I'd kill myself.

2. The contrast in style, between AAR and Conservative Radio
is striking. Over time, AAR and "Liberal talk" will only grow in appeal, and open the eyes of many caught in the sway of RW propagandists.

3. AAR is kicking ass in the ratings

Hell, even Clear Channel picked them up in ABQ, New Mexico.. just too much money to be made for them to turn it down.

AAR is number one in Portland. Not just #1 in talk, but number one in ALL radio. At the same time their competitors have lost 22-35% of their listeners.

Your friend doesnt have a clue what he's talking about.

Last I heard Franken had a 2.6 compared to Oreilly's 1.1

That’s cool you were chosen by Arbitron!!

4. Randi Rhodes had something to say about this
last week. She said they are taking the ratings and doing something with them to make them seem like a failure, but that actually, they weren't factoring in the markets they way the should. Tell the truth, I didn't understand how it works so I'm not saying this right, but she gave me the impression that it's the usual doublespeak bait and switch the critics are so good at and that AAR is growing at a very fast rate with advertising to match.

6. From what I've gathered, detractors lke to cite raw ratings
that ignore the number and market area of affilliate stations.

Sure, Limbaugh has a lot more listeners than Franken overall, but he's in every goddam market in the country. In Portland, KPOJ has done so well with AAR and Ed Schultz that they've shot up to #1 since switching formats and are about to upgrade from 5kw to a 25kw broadcast. But we still have TWO (yes 2!) stations in Little Beirut that broadcast the Pigman every day.

Limbaugh has had about 15 years to build up his audience!

9. AAR is biggest internet streaming site in the world

The radio ratings don’t count internet listeners. So that’s in addition to all the great ratings AAR is getting.

Not too bad for a company that didn’t exist 6 months ago.

10. In fact, AAR'S Internet stream gets so many hits...
...the network has had to cut listeners off after three hours. Otherwise, AAR will have to start charging us to listen on-line!

I don't know about the rest of you, but if AAR should find it necessary to ask us to pay to hear its webcast, I'd be willing to do so. But then again, I'm gainfully employed....

12. Internet listeners hear the ads as much as radio listeners, so
I don't understand why they shouldn't both remain free.

Maintaining servers costs money, but so does maintaining transmitters.

24. I'm curious to know ...
...
How many streams they're getting now. I for one was guilty of treating my computer as an "always on" AAR monitor. I would simply turn up the volume when I wanted to listen ;-)

They SHOULD be able to get leverage on advertising from their streams. Those are REAL listeners, not statistics.

11. Yeah, the EIB Network..
Excrement in Broadcasting.

I like the bit Franken does where he plays audio of Limpdick lying his ass off and has his wingnut bud on the air to comment. Usually there's nothing for the guy to say but "That one's hard to explain" or some such crap..

14. Dimsdale - you might enjoy the audio clip of Franken
talking to his friend where Franken tries to get to the bottom of his friend's loyalty to Limbaugh. I have it at MoveLeft Media.

It's on the top of the page below, and there is also a partial transcript on the page:

I heard the first part of that live on Sirius 144 but didn't stay on to hear Franken sum it up so nicely. Limbaugh has it right philosophically? Huh? Yeah, right.

22. Mark Luther also says that Limbagh is "PREACHING the right
way about the way of the world."

The word preaching suggests that Mark Luther may feel a religious devotion to Limbaugh.

26. I think he's coming around ....

Well, when we started it was "Rush is Right!!!!". Now it's Rush has the right "tenor" to what he's saying. Al is steadily deprogramming Mark Luther with all of Rush's lies.

I think sometime next year, Mark will probably announce that he's given up on being "RIGHT" and will become a moderate/independent. Than Al will have to find another ditto-head for on-air deprogramming.

first part of the title here, is the very hard to find addy for AAR. Dont lose it! It is NOT at their site. You will have to start a question thread here if you lose it... like i had to do, to get it.
Get a pen now and write the addy on your calendar or somesuch===

my2cents@airamericaradio.com

they need feedback! Let them know if you think

when they should be getting eager book authors to fill in,

----- or maybe fillin hosts from other talk hosts from the singlestation LW shows, like bernie ward. {me, i dont much like lionel. what do you think?}
homepage also too long, so tell them of the long download.

===patronize their sponsors, too.

==Bug aflcio and DNC, to subsidize AA. Both of them need AA to survive much longer. Rethugs plan to end both of them in the long run.

25. From what I have heard from others about radio...
From what I have heard about others about radio, it takes a while to build ratings to the point where you are #1 in the market overall... it's not like TV where 'Friends' was in the top 10 from Day 1 or movies where a top movie premieres at #1 and then goes down.

So, considering that AAR & Franken are winning in some demographics is actually quite impressive.

I would like for your colleague to call in to Mike Malloy and tell him that. He would really explain it to him.
