|
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 11:10 PM by NoMoreMrNiceGuy
Oil plain and simple....do ya really think we would be in Iraq if this administration had no ties to the oil industries.

1. well, considering most of the mass graves were caused by the U.S. |
|
I find it odd that he would allude to them.
Oh, but they're playing to their "base", that's right, the 20% of the people who are 80% below average.

3. Wasn't that about the 5th excuse Bush used |

for his little oil war? It was way down the list and not mentioned for months after it started and no WMD's were found.

He has no respect for himself. "george Bush is the most qualified to run the country".-John Mccain.
Please. Mccain got a deal. He's pathetic. And he probably will be on the ticket replacing crashcart.

6. It is quite comical that |
|
it is the U.S. (namely George I) who made those mass graves a reality (as someone pointed out before). Also, don't forget that the U.S. sanctions on Iraq hurt regular Iraqis a heck of a lot more than Saddam ever did. That's total crap if anyone tells you that's the reason we invaded.

Why exactly is it crap? How are they the US's fault? I have a swing-voter friends who was swayed by the mass graves thing McCain is talking about.

8. are they still lying about the # of mass graves? |
|
A BBC story said there were only 5000. Not 400,000.

9. The mass graves are filled with people killed by the US. |
|
We've killed tens of thousand of Iraqi civilians (and hundreds of thousands of troops?) directly.
Indirectly due to sanctions (bad sanctions, things like no pipes for sewage systems) we've caused famine and disease that's killed millions of Iraqis, mostly children.

11. That predates the first Gulf War... |

In 1991, we didn't use the gassing of the Kurds and the mass graves as an excuse to invade Iraq. It was the liberation of Kuwait. We didn't even mention the chemical weapons and everything, since the United States' fingerprints were still on those weapons, which we gave to Saddam during the 1980's Iran-Iraq conflict.
In 2003, though, we used the 15-year-old gassing story as an example of Saddam's instability and the fact that he was a grave threat to the United States. Our government acted like it was something from recent history, the same way that we tried to mislead people that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Ass'n) report from 1991 that Saddam was six months away from a nuclear weapon was recent news.
In addition, the other mass killings that Saddam was behind came from the uprising in Southern Iraq at the end of the Gulf War. The United States encouraged the uprising, said we would be there to support it, then left those people high and dry to be slaughtered. Hence, many folks in Iraq have long since gone with the belief that you can't believe a word the United States (and the Bush family) says about anything.
Saddam was certainly not a particularly great person, the Nobel Committee will never be considering him for any of their major awards, and there were certainly many Iraqis that wished him out of power. But we did not go in there for humanitarian reasons, to bring freedom to oppressed Iraqi people. We went in there because Iraq was supposed to be a threat to us, because a U.S.-friendly government in Iraq would benefit the oil tycoons, and because they wanted to protect the value of the United States dollar (Iraq was starting to get involved in some trade with the European Union, which would have strengthened the value of the Euro and caused the value of the dollar to decline -- a big problem when you've already run up huge debts around the world).

14. Someone should do the research |
|
Lay out every reason administration officials used to go to war and then the dates listed right behind them. I think there was 5 phases. Sadamm was responsible for 9/11, They've got nukes, they've got chemical weapons, they could attack us in 30 minutes, then phased into Saddam was a bad person, We need to liberate people of iraq.
I'm sure I missed most of them.

15. I know. The problem is we are off on our own here...no Dem support |
|
It makes me sound kind of loony to a coworker when I suggest I know what really happened, but the Repubs, Dems, and the whole governement doesn't.
Maybe I should just say that I'm sure Kerry would agree with him and not fight it.

The Repubs tell lies or half truths. The Dems try to set the record straight but usually too late or not simple enough for a sound byte. The Repub perception of the lie &/or half truth stays in the mind of those that don't do any research.
Repubs use any tactic available to win. Dems try to play defense and appear weak.
The Repubs have a game book of Domestic War and they play down and dirty and take no prisoners.

contain the victims of the Iraq/Iran war, of which Reagan and Bush and the other sycophants of that GOP administration assisted in putting those bodies into the ground ....
Hell: Even when Saddam gassed his own people: he did it with the help of Bush and Rumsfeld ....
What a bunch of fucking hypocrites ...
